Something a little extra to the UKBEG 2012 events diary :D ...

Come and get your toga and sandals dirty in the hills of the Northumberland National Park over the weekend of Friday 24th to Sunday 26th February, staying Friday and Saturday night at the 'Once Brewed' hostel.

The hostel is located in the middle of nowhere on the rather splendid B6318 'Military Road' which runs alongside Hadrian's Wall. This picturesque area is packed with Roman history and contains some great roads.

Accommodation could be described as basic, but at least it's dry, warm and comfortable.

Example room prices:
1 room with 4 beds = £29.95 per room, per night.
1 double or twin room = £23.00 per room, per night.
Non YHA members pay a supplement of £3.00 per adult, per night.

The hostel has a restaurant which provides a yummy :P cooked buffet breakfast for around £5 per person and they can offer an evening meal. The hostel is also fully licensed.

If you want to be really cheap you can always self-cater - there's an excellent kitchen.

We can't guarantee good weather in late February, in fact it will probably be pants and you'll get your bike or car dirty, but who knows, you may get lucky....

You can book on-line: here

You can find the 'Once Brewed' hostel: here

The weather's looking good for our weekend in Northumberland - very two-wheel friendly :P.. .

If anyone would like to join us for a ride out on Saturday we suggest you meet us at the hostel around 10.00 ish - location details as above.

It wasn't the most successful UKBEGevent we've ever suggested, but at least Jane and I had a Buell-tastic weekend in Northumberland. It was a cracking start to the main riding season :P...

We covered a total of 457 miles, all safely completed using that classic 'go almost anywhere, do almost anything' Buell model, the XB12X Ulysses. On Saturday we explored a good part of the Borders region on virtually traffic free B and C class roads. It's a beautiful area and one which we would like to visit again.

The hostel was spot on with excellent food and a good standard of accommodation - we couldn't fault it. There was even a dormitory full of posh 'nieces' who'd come up from darn sarf in a minibus. We couldn't help but think of a certain young gentleman from Louth when we saw them - the poor lad would have been worn out..

Any road up, a selection of pictures from the weekend.....

The whole weekend was nicely rounded off with a large hot chocolate with fresh cream at Squires Bikers Cafe and just when we thought we'd never see another Buell over the entire weekend, a very clean X1 arrived just before we left for home....

Kev - I did consider trying to take pictures of the young ladies in question but didn't want to be arrested and charged with voyeurism, or even worse, being kicked in the dangly bits by Jane :4roz: while still wearing her motorcycle boots.

I think I have a picture of their minibus if that helps :D....
