Post subject: Now my key has snapped !
PostPosted: 05 May 2012 17:39
If I didn't have bad luck then I'd have none at all !

Was on my way into London today and needed petrol. Long story short the key broke in the lock of the petrol cap. So I had to ring the father-in-law to scrounge a lift home to get the spare key and some pliers. Did have some good luck though as I managed to get the broken key out of the lock.

But feck me - a new one is nearly £30 !

Ordered a couple of blanks from Ebay - hoping that they're right !

Not so bad... I am sure any locksmith worth his salt will have a matching blank if Begay doesn't come up trumps...

Exactly the same thing happened to me, except I was at a petrol station only 1/2 mile from my house. Ordered a new set of keys (think it was £35 back then) but they didn't fit, I just used to carry a small screwdriver round with me to open the fuel cap, until 1 came up on ebay.....

Believe me, I've tried to get another key cut - but was unable to find a key cutter with a matching blank. Trouble is, around where I live it seems to be a case of the customer can take it or leave it, nobody seems to want to make an effort for your custom any more. :(

Was the ignition not the same key ?

How about this?

http://www.keytrader.co.uk/Vehicle-Keys ... Blank.html

If you give them your key code from the plastic tab that came attached to your keys, they will cut it for you for a further £2.

I know you have ordered one already, but for future reference...

Yea it was the same key for ignition an fuel filler, I was told by the dealer you could only order a set (2 keys) at a time, gave them the number but when the keys came they wouldn't turn, never did get around to taking them back.....

It is indeed a shame that I have already ordered one, that is a good find ! May well order some extra spares though, at that price then I can put spares in all of my biking gear.

Been a week now, and still no key ...

Ordered one from HDB so no surprise there really.

But I also ordered a couple of blanks to get cut, but they haven't turned up either. And that was from a UK supplier. I bought a set of tins for my V Rod from Ebay on Monday, they arrived from Switzerland on Friday.

It seems as if a lot of UK businesses don't really care about their customers ...

When my key snapped in the fuel cap I bought one of these...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Blank-uncut-key-Buell-Malaguti-Italjet-Aprilia-Bmw-Derbi-MZ-derbi-cagiva-/280876172021?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item41658642f5#ht_1135wt_1065

Had it cut at a normal key-cutters without problem. Worked fine.

Eugene, can you remember where your keys were sent from ?

On the Ebay listing it says that the seller is in Wakefield - but in a response from the seller that I received today Ebay are saying that the person is in Bulgaria !
