But... if it was me, I would fit one and try it out. If it is rubbish, then I would get the matching one for the front then sell the old front on Begay.
If Maxxis said it would be OK, I would of course believe them, if they said it wasn't I would probably be thinking at the back of my mind that they were trying to get more money out of me.
My Uly runs the original semi nobbly Dunlop with a Qualifier on the back. No complaints with handling and plenty of miles left in the front...
Problem is Pash, the bike is off the road with the rear shock about to wing it's way to Ronnie for some TLC, and by the tim eI get it back and put an MOT and tyres on the bike I will have about 2 evenings to take her out and decide if I like the combination before I go away on a 12 day tour round the Alps. So, if I don't like it, I'm a bit stuffed as I won't have any time to get a front fitted - plus my local stockist seem to do them to order, rather than stock them.
That said, I was thinking exactly the same as you when I sent the email, they'll probably just say you need a matched pair for 'safety reasons' ort some other bullshit. Let's see what kind of response I get, but having ridden the beast with some very very worn tryes in the past, a mismatched pair is probably not going to feel too bad anyway.
