Hi,

Do you guys know where to get crash mushrooms for a XB12X? I saw a website with aftermarket parts for Buells some time ago with some good stuff but cannot quite remember what it was.

Also, has anyone fitted an HID kit on their Buell? I am not overly impressed with the lighting of the bike, so if you guys have suggestions on improving it please let me know.

Thank you

The site you found was probably Matt's Trojan Horse site. Nice stuff, don't enter with your credit card too handy, though. 8-)

A few have fitted HID's but, TBH, they are illegal and I find it hypocritical that many people have criticised them on cars (which have auto-levelling etc) but then fit them to bikes (with lights that go up and down like a whore's drawers).

That's just my opinion, though. ;)

I am pretty impressed with the Buell's lights, expecially coming from a 97 SRAD which had a couple of candles.

A cheap, 10 minute mod involves swapping a couple of wires under the fly screen. You lose the sidelights when in the 4th key position (past steering head lock) but both headlights come on for full beam. Try that with some of the fancy bulbs?

I replaced the 2 halogen H4 on my Aprilia caponord with HID, and the difference is amazing.

Car drivers definitely realise you're there a lot more. They are not blinding though as I made sure of that by adjusting the optic block. My brother followed on the capo when I rode the buell back home last weekend, and the lights are just white and very visible.

Yourguitar, do you mean that the running light does not come off when you switch on the headlight?

Thanks for the links, adrenalin is the site I had seen before.

MY wife said that there is a lot of heat coming off the engine, and it can be a bit uncomfortable. Is that a regular problem?

they do get hot.

reflective backing under the seat may help.

someone on here has done that mod. I can't remember who, but can recall that it seemed to help.

Basically, after you swap the wires around, when you are in 'parked with sidelights on' key position you get 'parked with one headlight on' and run your battery down in about 30 mins.

I've never actually used the 'parked with sidelights on' key position on any bike I've ever owned so I'm not worried about it.

We stock R and G Wheel Spindle Sliders to fit all XBs. £29.99 for each pair. Cheap insurance I reckon and the rear ones double as paddock stand bobbins.

Not all H4 lamps are created equal. You may want to experiment with Sylvania Silver Star lamps (55w) - some riders like them better, and feel they give a brighter, whiter light.
Haven't tried them yet myself.
