I Googled Beds for bikers and got a great place at Winterbourne Kingston in Dorset at short notice..Great breakfast and lockable garage for the bike. The Greyhound pub up the road does a great carvery as well. Not too far from the Cerne Abbas giant. (The one with the big willy) The daughter rides bikes so they dont mind wet leathers etc..They also provide livery if you,re interested in that sort of thing. The guest book has names from as far affield as Tazmania. Its most definately a great place to ride out from.. West Acres Near Blandford Dorset..

Stayed at this place recently, both ex bikers. Lovely location and a lock-up garage which would fit a dozen bikes. Some great roads round the area and a Tibetan temple up t'road ;)

Looks a wee bit dour there Martin. Have they fogged the lens deliberately or is that the usual 'Scotch mist'? lOl

Stillwell House B&B in Helmsley, just at the back of the castle, really friendly and handily placed. Tel 01439 771072
Can also recommend a good caravan site in Grassington, they serve a lovely breakfast ;)

When I went to Nimbin, New South Wales,I stayed at the Grey Gum Lodge. They even moved the pot plants to let me park the bike in a secure compound. Worth the trip. lOl

If you are looking for somewhere to camp in Essex, then I can recommend the http://www.fenfarm.co.uk/site on the eastern end of Mersea Island.

Just stayed there last weekend with 4 other biking buddies. A pleasant site, only £7.00 per tent per night, free hot showers, and a good Pub within 5 minutes walking (Dog and Pheasant). The pub has a good range of beers, good service and varied menu. Best Fish n Chips I've ever had in a pub.

The surprise, being a northener, I thought that Essex would be all built up and grid locked, but some of the riding round there was pleasant too.

We've recently had a brilliant 8 day holiday in Scotland and can recommend the following biker friendly establishments:

Isle of Mull - Arle Lodge
Image

Braemar - Balnellan House

Not used during our trip but a shameless plug for Sunart Camping in Strontian, which is owned by a fellow Buell owner. We met Tim while waiting for the Lochaline to Fishnish (Mull) ferry and got chatting about his Buell and his original hometown of Huddersfield. Tim bought his XB new from Eddys of Leeds and took it with him when he moved up to Scotland.....

Any recommendations for south of Bordeaux? Maybe between Bordeaux and Irun (French/Spanish border)?

Cheers

Nick

I can't help you with accommodation down there, Nick, but I recommend bypassing Bordeaux by taking the little ferry across the Gironde from Blaye to Lamarque - it's like the African Queen! :) A much more relaxed and picturesque route than the autoroutes around Bordeaux.

Many thanks, we stayed in a hotel in Dax in the end, Thermas de Le Avenue I think it was called.

We were in a rush to get to Spain. Now in a hotel overlooking the elephant sanctuary in Cabarceno.

Really nice place, right on the edge of the Picos...

Not quite a hotel or B&B but http://www.stgerygite.com/ has secure parking in both houses. Both are owned by a mate of mine and if you like green laning, he can be persuaded to guide you round some top trails that start within 1/2 a kilometer of the houses.

Would reccommend this one for the Lake District, once the manager found out we were on the bike he wouldn't let us park in the car park, insisted the bike went under cover at the front of the hotel in view of reception at all times. And they did/do some good 'walking' packages (full board, 2 nights etc cheap) and the food was superb :D
