I'll be on my way to East Kirkby tonight. :D
Hopefully I'll make it before nightfall. I'll leave when I can escape work so that might be rather late. I'm staying at the campsite.

Right, that's sorted then :yup: Meet at Black Bear at 0900 ready to depart at 0930. I'll lay on the doughnuts and coffee and I might even have some route plans printed out.

Really gutted not to be going myself and disappointed with the general lack of interest shown so far. I suppose the meeting holds less significance for a lot of the newer members but, for those who don't know, Emma was a feisty little individual who knew from an early age that she wouldn't make old bones so lived her life to the full. Her Mum bought her Hugo, a Harley-Davidson Hugger, for her 21st birthday but that wasn't enough so along came Barney the legendary M2. She rode it to events, she wound people up on here and eventually we lost her to Cystic Fibrosis. This is why we ride to East Kirkby every year :sun:

Sadly, on our ride to East Kirkby in 2008, we lost another of UKBEG's most enigmatic characters - Darren or Yoffi as he was more widely known. So East Kirkby has become a place for remembering two of our really great mates and people who had an enormous influence on UKBEG in the earlier days.

Get yourself up to East Kirkby tomorrow. It's a great day with lots to see and do and plenty of people to talk Buell to and learn a little more about the people that us old timers remember and talk so fondly of :)

Have a great day out everyone 8-)

Steve

To any newbies dithering whether to attend this or any UKBEG meet all I can say is get your butts there! I know the fact that a lot of folk on here know each other personally and are great friends can seem cliquey and daunting but you will never meet a more open, welcoming and friendly bunch. These people take you to their hearts and soon become not just dear friends but family.

When Rick and I first showed our faces was THAT Em's day four years ago. We met up with Digger and some of the northern monkeys and received a warm welcome. We caused hilarity on the ride down which poor Rick will never live down ;) . But on our arrival at East Kirkby and the news coming in we fully expected and understood that folk might be too grief stricken to be bothered with ;) new comers. Far from it! They did exactly what Yoffi would have wanted and done himself and made us welcome with open arms. We are now proud to call all these people our friends and indeed our family. They are the kind of people you may not see except at events like this but I know for a fact that if you ever need help of any kind they will be the first ones to offer.

Make the effort and find out what you are missing. I assure you its more than worth it :4roz:

Very well said, both Steve & Tigs.

I met up with Frankie yesterday, then sent him on his way over the bridge with a note of our favourite route over the Wolds to E Kirkby, mentioning the bends between Melton Ross & Bigby.

Had a text last night saying he had a superb ride down, but referring to a left & right that almost caught him out ...... so you can compare notes on the quality of the grass verge when you see him on Saturday lOl

So, so sorry I can't be there this year, folks. Have a memorable day. 8-)

Well said, Steve. I never met Em or Yoffi, and I don't even ride a Buell; but it's a good day out, to meet good people, and for a good cause. And, as GB mentioned, it's always good to hear them revs the nuts off those four Merlins.
