With a single cutout, the ignition must think it is running at half speed as there is only one pulse. Can you account for that in your ignition map?
That's where I'm using the delivered cup with two cutouts, so it recognizes rpm correctly. Otherwise with some math, yes, I could account for it in the maps if I wanted to.

Would be interested to know why dual fire didn't work. That would allow you to get rid of the earth to the rear coil... But you could do that by not connecting the rear output from the ignition unit.
That is an interesting observation on the dual-fire, eliminating the rear. I wonder if it disables the rear signal entirely?
When I did mine on dual-fire, I was still using the stock head which required me to run pig-rich. That wasted spark may've been igniting something extra. Now using the XB top-end (46/165 jets instead of 48/180, and I'm still rich), it's worth flipping the switch and trying again. I shall try this, this evening.
I'm not 100% if grounding the rear plug wire is needed, but I've read that not allowing the module to discharge can destroy the module. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
