With a single cutout, the ignition must think it is running at half speed as there is only one pulse. Can you account for that in your ignition map?

That's where I'm using the delivered cup with two cutouts, so it recognizes rpm correctly. Otherwise with some math, yes, I could account for it in the maps if I wanted to.

Would be interested to know why dual fire didn't work. That would allow you to get rid of the earth to the rear coil... But you could do that by not connecting the rear output from the ignition unit.

That is an interesting observation on the dual-fire, eliminating the rear. I wonder if it disables the rear signal entirely?

When I did mine on dual-fire, I was still using the stock head which required me to run pig-rich. That wasted spark may've been igniting something extra. Now using the XB top-end (46/165 jets instead of 48/180, and I'm still rich), it's worth flipping the switch and trying again. I shall try this, this evening.

I'm not 100% if grounding the rear plug wire is needed, but I've read that not allowing the module to discharge can destroy the module. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

The module is a switch, the coil has a 12V feed and the ignition unit provides the earth to charge the coil. When it wants to strike an arc, it breaks the circuit.

It is not a CDI system.

So in theory, the lead from the module to the coil for the rear cylinder, I could just disconnect from the coil and tape it up?

Nothing bad is going to happen?

Yes. You can go back to using the original coil.

You could go back to the single cutout rotor by halving the speeds in your look up table too. Saying that, a double cutout rotor is lighter ;)

Interesting...I will be investigating this later. It would be nicer to keep using the stock wiring...I'll let you know how it goes.

I'd rather keep my double cutout so that my numbers in my maps make sense, lol. Beyond that, my cams are indexed for a different cam-cover, so I would have to re-notch my stock cup anyways.

...and then... My stock cup has a second window cut out when I was fitting a Crane Hi-4 system (prior to Ultima) that didn't come with a timing cup and is not programmable.

Nice to chat with someone that understands the ignition systems more than myself. I know the mechanicals, it's the electrical system that gives me issues.

I'm sorry for the threadjack.

Was only meaning to illustrate that there's other options available.
