Hi all,
I bought the my 2001 x1 last week, and it been running fine till last night/today. On 3/4 throttle it keeps skipping/dropping power. Not cutting out entirely, but blipping in and out. If I twist a bit further to full throttle or drop to half throttle is fine. Occasionally it will happen at 1/4 throttle, but not as much, at the moment, it's ALWAYS happening at 3/4.
What could it be? Water in ecu or other electrics?
I think the indicator relay got damp, as it was constantly clicking, so I unplugged it for a while to dry it out, would that affect it in any way?

Seeing as I've had it a week, never done one. What does it do? And how do I do it?

Where is this place?? The technical forum!!! Never been in here before - could the problem be the side stand switch?? I only say that because I had a similar problem on my M2.

Is it worse when hot? My rear cylinder temperature sensor gave me probs for a while. Ran perfectly for a
while then played up as it got warm but not all the time, annoying but fine once changed out.

ok, forgive me for my buell newbiness, but the cylinder temp guage, are they specific and need to be ordered from harley, or can i go somewhere and pick one up?

Looking into this whole ECM spy thing. It has a race ecu installed, will that make a difference?
I was hoping to run up to silverstone on it this weekend, and wont get a cable through in time, will any motorbike places be able to do it easily, without me having to pay megabucks for something i could do myself next week?

Do any shops sell the parts to make a cable. I believe I need
5v ftdi cable
and a plug like

Well having read more on other forums, and deep six's suggestion above, I think it is probably the cylinder temp sensor, so am going to try and source one of those...

With ECMSpy you could see if it is reading correctly and with some visual inspection you could see if it is chaffed and shorting to earth.

They are not particularly cheap and I am not aware of an alternative replacement.

Is there anywhere to buy them over the counter, or do i have to order one through the HD Dealer?
Will go and have a peek about for any chafing. I can bet my luck though that it'll be fooked, and i wont be able to get one for ages...

Should i still be riding the bike?

I was amazed that I bought one over the counter at Dockgate20. (I think they may be the same as Sportster ones or they probably wouldn't have stocked them) They are not that cheap now so I would eliminate other options first.
On mine, all was fine until it got warm then played up like a barsteward but not all the time, which made it hard to pin point. Could go miles before anything happened then it would throw a coughing fit, backfire etc.
You will need to cut a slot down the side of a socket to fit one if I recall, to pass the wire through.
