Hi was wondering if anybody can let me know what master cylinder they have used on a ZTL2 conversion to a 2005 XB12S? I was speaking to Pash and he was saying an 90s jap one may be ok with 5/8 bore i was wanting to keep the Original mirror mount just wondering what anybody has used.

You could use one off an 1125 (I am guessing the XB12SX is the same), they are 19mm bore. That's what I use on the Firebolt.

I stripped one of my ZTL2s last night and measured the pistons (I lead such an interesting life) and the mechanical advantage (area ratio) with a 5/8 bore is the same as that for the ZTL1 with a 1/2 bore.

I will be trying a 5/8 bore next to see how it performs.

The 96/97 tubers with PM calipers had 5/8 bore master cylinders. A lot of Jap stuff and Triumphs too with four piston calipers on twin discs. Worth having a look round dealers, bike parks etc.

Note that bikes with twin disc sliding calipers generally use a 14mm bore.

Recent Z1000 or ER6N have 5/8 bore and a hole for a mirror.

Above, I am referring to master cylinders that look the same as standard items.

You could get something with a remote reservoir off a naked sports bike. The bores are marked on the cylinders.

Just fitted a 5/8" bore master cylinder (ex-97 S1) to the ZTL2 on the Uly. Pleased with it so far.

I used:

Yeah man.

I also used a Stanley knife blade to slice through the rubber grommets on the original hose so I could use them on the new one, with the clamps etc.

Why would anyone want to add the massively heavier 8 pot caliper to an air cooled slug ?......thus negating any 'advantage' the ZTL might provide to unsprung weight :?

Here,here...3/4kg heavier,that's why I've swapped to six pots on the race bikes.
I found the 8pot to be a horrible wooden brake with little feel on the road and just unnecessary weight on the track.
