Shamelessly ripped from BWB - the NHTSA (US equivalent of VOSA) is investigating issues with the 1125 -

Do they stall when the stator burns out?

How many stators have been replaced in the UK, does anybody know ?

And even if HD are forced to do something about it in the USA there is no guarantee they will do anything about it over here and in Europe ...

I suppose it depends on what the outcome is ...............if deemed unsafe and forced to do something in the USA they will be treading dangerous ground leaving other owners to the same dangers.

What is EBR doing about this ? What does the RS have can that be moved across to the 1125 ?

I think I remember that I had about 5 stators, I can laugh about it now but at the time it was depressing.

EBR have introduced an oil jet into the stator, (hoping) to keep it cooler.

May work well on the track but I am not convinced that it is the answer, especially on our stop and go roads ...

I see have any of the Badweb guys tried it out yet ?

It was a known prob since day one and the fudge which H-D did was only to get the bikes past warranty - shame as the bike is a cracker. I wonder where is now.

The oil hole is an unknown at the moment as to if it will provide a long term fix but bare in mind oil is often used to cool electrical windings down and the engine oil is running at a lot lower temp than the failure temp of the windings in the stator.
Even at tickover that hole is rotating around inside the stator at over 1000 times a minute spraying towards the windings.
Every photo of a failed stator that i have seen they have always failed at the point furthest from where they were likely to have been getting splashed with any oil that the normal rotor might have picked up ..........I've got the oiling rotor fitted to mine and the stator is new ( well it was sold as new by Lincoln HD via ebay but Jon thinks it is actually a rewind not an original) so time will tell.
I'm going to leave the recall harness in as well which will also reduce the temp so hopefully between them I may be lucky and get no further problems ..........................if Harley are forced to repair bikes if the oiling rotor is the route they are forced to take i'll just see if I can get reimbursed for the cost of having mine done.
