Have any of you folks with 2002 and later Buells been having any problems with the cush springs at the back of the clutch breaking?

Reason I ask is the XR1200 shares quite a lot with the later Buells and this issue with the clutch is semi-common and quite a few of the XR race bikes have had the same problem??

Check with onanist (PM him in case he doesn't see this), I think he had a problem to do with this clutch basket.

Baz at Lightning Services attended to it.

I'm gonna pull the clutch off the XR in the next couple of weeks coz its slipping a touch with the extra 25ft/lb of TQ I'm getting from this 1450 motor I've built.
Got myself an XL clutch off e-bay in the US and a set of Barnett clutch plates and stronger spring, the reason I'm using the XL clutch is because the XR/Buell replacement is to much dosh for something that will most probably just ferk up again.
Another way round it is to weld both part together, one of the XR blokes has done it, straight forward and easy job to do which will save anybody in that position a lot of money.

A lot of the US race series bikes have gone with the XL clutch for the same reason, the standard XR/Buell clutch was breaking up.

Must say I find it pretty interesting that the Buells dont seem to have the same problem

You cant beat standard clutch plates......Barnett plates are dogshit IMO :)

....no idea what the XR uses but the proper/tuber Buells all use XL clutches.

Like I said in my first post it was 2002 and later Buells that I was asking about, its the clutch basket that's been the problem with the springs at the back of it breaking up. The XR shares the same clutch.

I've used Barnett in other bikes over the years with no probs at all.

The slipping thing is just my bike with the bigger motor, the HD clutch cant cope with the motor now. so the Barnett extra plate carbon fibre clutch is going in an XL clutch to replace the XR/Buell one.

Am I right in thinking that you dont like the later Buells??

In my very humble opinion...They are harder to work on whilst giving what? in return over a tuber? Why change stuff in the name of 'innovation' when it doesn't take you further forward and in doing so builds in major irritants that, while others happily live with, I couldn't. All bikes have their limitaions and quirks but most you can engineer out.

Don't get me wrong, I look at some fuellers and think they look fantastic, and I can understand people falling in love with there's....but I just don't think I could live with one...Maybe I'm wrong but I always feel that the tubers are full of Erik's genes whereas the fuellers just aren't...

Vive la differance I say and each to their own......I have plenty of mates that think I'm an idiot having a Buell at all....... lOl
