Hoping to do this with the aid of the workshop manual but need to call on the expertise here :worthy:

When I bolt the cases together on the XB9 the gears are difficult to select and feel like there's something binding as it turns 50% easy, 50% binding in a revolution, although 5th is OK...

It's making me feel its something wrong on the 2nd motion shaft. If I release the crankcases 1-2mm all is good and selection is easy, just as soon as I tighten the cases the problem starts

I thought it was the closed-end bearing in too far but its not that, also thought it was the front pulley nut as it's not to torque spec, but 5th gear is fine must be something obvious as I've not had the gears in bits.

Had a day on this now and can't see a solution.

Anyone got any ideas?

Simon

Have you put the washer (input shaft) the correct side of the cases?

Do a quick search, Maz mentioned this and so did Willy.

Thanks for the quick reply Pash, If you mean the funny flying saucer one, Yes. I spoke to Willy about it and also made sure the one that caused all his problems was greased and the gears inserted upwards. we'd originally come up with the closed-end bearing too far in but I've "adjusted" that outwards to the same as the original going off the dirt on it, so it's not that. The cases go together really easy, and seal without forcing them together, this is what I can't understand. I haven't stripped the gears off the shaft :?:

Thought I'd bottomed the 5th gear out when I knocked it on, seems like I hadn't... :headbang:
