And a big thanks for all the others on here with the skills to improve and help keep improving our Buells including yourself Andy + the likes of Gunter and Pash for all the ecmspy work and Albert for his fantastic exhausts and of course we can't forget the spanner wizard even if he won't get up early tomorrow to make the tea ;) lOl

It does look rather nice so far. The cruiser people are going to be so jealous of all that shine. lOl

Can't wait to see the small one. I'm always looking out for a good solo tail project to add to the garage.

Just one thing... are the welds on the bottom edge going to be smoothed out?

Tony is an aircraft coded welder & although you probably can't see from the photo the welding is very pretty, there is no need to smooth it out! You would only need to smooth out if you had a substandard welding job! If you see some pictures of tanks on our website there will be close up pictures of Tony's welding, see www.holtworks.co.uk.

Or if you would prefer a perfectly smooth blended edge. Which is what I would like for the small tank.

Wasn't a jab at his welding at all. As someone who also welds, I know it looks good. Was just implying just that I think some tanks look great with visible welds while others look better with the smoothness of a fused joint.

Just waiting to see whether the Buell vibes are gonna work harden these tanks and result in fractures ? :)

My JAP/Enfield pre '60 scramble bike used to crack the tank because of the vibes. To stop it happening I found someone with a kiln and heated and quenched it to anneal the alloy and it didn't fracture again.

Needless to say, I flushed the tank thoroughly before it went into the kiln and once it was in there, everyone left the room ;) lOl

You should only clean off the weld if are able to weld from the inside as well thus ensuring you are not removing any of the strength. As this is the final operation this is not possible. Regards Tony

These tanks will be annealed and everything has been done in the design of them to avoid any cracking.

The photos cannot do justice to the beauty and quality of the tank.
Having made several trips to Tony and Michelle's.
I have had the pleasure of their hospitality, have had full access to the workshop with explanation of process etc, seen the other tanks being produced for private and business customers in the road and race world and enthusiasm to undertake this particular project.
It is Holtworks aim to ensure this is as near perfect as one could expect in a imperfect and mass produced "made in China" world we now live in.
When we were doing the mock up fitment, we have endeavoured to consider the Buell traits for vibration as well as the paint issue.
Tony knows I shall be trying to see if I can break mine before sending for painting :o

Tony, I'll let the Ducati fellas know about these works of art you make. Modern fuels aren't kind to the plastic that Ducs use (turns them to jelly and they spread off the mounts). I'd imagine you could buy 2 of your tanks for the silly money that Ducati Corse want 8-)

Just finish speaking to Holts, nice people, I have decide to go for a tank. Only question is which, I use both tanks on my 97 M2. The small one is sexiest, I put the manta on when I did big miles (for the range). Planned on the small one (cant afford both), but the manta pictures look soooo gooood.
