I tack welded the perforated tube to one of the end plates (can't remember which ) this stops it rattling about when the packing blows out again through the rivets lOl
You definitely need stainless rivets and they will take a lot of drilling to get them out , it's sometimes easier to grind the rivet off carefully and then punch them through ;)

The earlier cans have aluminium skins and the stainless ends and rivets can wear into each other, the later ones have a stainless skin

........and much thicker rear brackets along with a double skinned front entry to stop the can dropping when the weld fails :idea:

Are these the thicker brackets? Look fairly robust but really not a great detail for fatigue.

boo.

oh well, can't complain too much at a free race exhaust i suppose. :)

does anyone have any pics handy of the stronger version of these brackets? I'm quite happy to weld some stiffening to these but not sure what's the best (or at least tried and tested) way to do this. No rush for this though, as i have quite a bit of header polishing to do first.

Wasn't the issue with the front end dropping off more of a problem? There was a recall that involved fitting a wire to stop the front of the can dropping on to the road and causing a nasty spill. I don't know if there was ever a proper solution before the second generation came along.

All that being said, my race can was the best I tried, and I tried a few!

yeah, i was pondering about the front end to be honest, i assumed i was missing some bracketry to connect to the header support in some way. is this not the case? i was building up to asking that potentially stupid question at a later date...

ah... found a discussion on this on the "other" buell forum.

i think if no-one looks closely i can maybe knock up something similar to the :maz: one. unless anyone has one going spare they would like to sell me?
