I think you will find that photo is Muffin wearing his Maz bracket ;) ............. far superior to the genuine shoe type fitting that clamped to the top of the pipe .

Started polishing yesterday. Flattened both batteries on my cordless drill, then went to plug in the charger. Turned it on at the wall and about 4 seconds later the f**king charger exploded. Not the battery itself, the adapter part that plugs into the wall socket. Scared the sh*t out of me, and my ears were ringing for sbout an hour.

Gonna buy an old school corded drill today. The half polished look is worse than the not polished look.

I went to B&Q a couple of weeks ago and paid £25 for one, there was a 15 quid one. I am doing the same as you at the moment. I wanted variable speed, compact and light, the 710w 'performance power' PHD710A fitted the bill and is doing a great job. :idea:

Just spoke to warrenty folk about my drill. they're going to send me a new charger for free, once i post them the exploded one. and they offered to pay the postage for the old one. and they're doing all this without me having my reciept to hand.

reading between the lines, they're either terrified about having to do a product recall, or worried that i'll blab on the interweb about them being "a bit explodey".

JCB 20V lithium combi drill for your info folks. great when it works, just make sure to turn the charger on with a broom handle whilst standing behind an inch of lexan.

Idealy, if you're taking bits off the bike, you really want a big bench grinder because it helps get some heat into the work and drills are a bit weedy when it comes to this. My mate has a 2hp wheel with big mops on it. You only let it grab once :shock: lOl lOl

Reminds me of my schooldays when we had a rather weak metalwork teacher.....we would stand around the classroom playing cricket.....the idea was that the 'batsman' dropped a small polishing wheel onto the fast spinny big wheel....6 runs if you hit the wall etc.... :D

Drilled out the rivets very easily, but the end caps of silencer have been stuck in place with a red mastic type stuff. Any suggestions? And do I need to replace said annoying mastic when I put it back together?

Thinkin I might try of that goop you get to eat away bathroom sealant.

So, quarter of a year later, I finally had time and inclination to put the exhaust on. Freshly polished, new acoustafil packing, and a lovely new "maz bracket". Also, MOT passed last week with the old stock exhaust.

Started it up in a relatively enclosed area and scared myself a bit. :) once it warmed up a bit it settled down to a really nice level of noise, not too offensive (which I feared). But i'm glad I'll already be awake when its started in the morning. Neighbours might not appreciate their new alarm clock.

Thanks maz, pash, kev, daveh and everyone else for advice and bits etc. Much appreciated.

so, i've got the stock carb on it, but with the stage one trimmings. mikuni and forcewinder will be this winter's task, but for the moment, would it be worth the effort to get the carb jetted specifically to suit the race exhaust? seems to be performing pretty well at the moment, but am i missing some of the potential by keeping the original settings?

made someone swear loudy when i started it at work the other day. it seems there's a little knack to getting the exhaust to pop with a quick flick of the throttle when at idle. :twisted:

Would anyone know the correct size of the rivets ? I'm new to riveting and they seem to come in all sorts of different sizes. Also, are sealed stainless rivets harder to get hold of? Just been to Bunnings, the Oz B&Q, and they seemed to have everything except sealed stainless.

Bonz, STOP! Before you drill out those very hard to find rivets....
It reads (above) as though it was only repacked very recently and can't have run very much since, so I doubt a lack of wadding is the issue... it may already be as quiet as it's ever going to be! Get a Db killer type of baffle inserted.

Don't worry, I'm not drilling out anything until I've got all the kit I need and as much instruction as I need. I've hijacked this thread, it's not mine being talked about, but it's the same one. I don't know if mine has ever been repacked, but anyway, 1st thing is a Db killer, it's on its way :P
