The weld looks shit on frames but you wouldn't dream of grinding it off would you?
Its a petrol tank, its been pressure tested and doesn't leak and its integrity is gaurenteed so grinding it is a proper no-no IMHO.
If its getting polished I think the weld would add to the look, if its getting painted and you found it that ugly, get the paint shop to reshape it with filler, personally, I'm ok with it and I think the visible weld adds to the hand made nature of the bike anyway, just an opinion.

I quite like visible welds as long as they're quality ones like this. Nothing wrong in a piece revealing how it's constructed in my book.. :yup:

Rather that than dressing the joint and possibly compromising it's strength...

keeping it agricultural although stylishly so ;) I'm sure Tony would make the screen and tail-section if there was enough call for this, to me Buell isn't bling in the bling Harley way, but its horses for courses, why doesn't someone sound him out on the additional parts

Gentlemen,

Would you please stop saying just how good these tanks look and just how well made they are.

When I built the faired M2 thing, I spent months tracking down a skinny tank, then spent a fortune getting the whole thing painted.

If I go for a skinny Ali tank now, the paint colour will never perfectly match the 18 month old paint on the rest of the bike, so I'll need to get the whole thing repsrayed again.

Actually, the fibreglasser never listened to the instructions we gave him, so the top fairing really still needs to be modified again to get it right. On reflection, keep pursuading me to get this tank so that we can reprofile the top fairing and repaint the whole thing once that's done.

Tank is now painted and fitted, thought I'd better post a bit of a proceedure as it isn't straight forward.

I made a ring so the threads are sealed, probably over the top but thats me.

Used 3 cut down cap head bolts and nuts to hold the ring in place inside the tank, apply flange sealer to the face

Slide the filler neck and rubber seal over the cut down bolts, (after applying flange sealer to both) push it down until its on top of the nuts on the cut down bolts.

Start fitting the countersunk screws into the flange, don't tighten them but make sure they have enough purchase on the tank ring or it will fall off

Undo the cutdown bolts, this will leave the nuts behind betweek the top of the tank and the rubber seal, pick them out carefully with an allen key or something suitable, then tighten the countersunk screw as normal.

I'm really happy with the result:

I guess that is because your tank was one of the first and Holtworks are going to address that is subsequent tanks.

Who else has their tank?

I can't answer that Pash, there were a few little problems with the front mounting bracket which I re machined and let Tony have all the details of that.
I have also provided him with feedback on my findings with the fuel filler, what he does for anyone is between him and them, I'm really happy with what I have, its great now.
I genuinly can see no further issues.
