Kev - it's great news that both Ronnie and yourself will be in Normandy during that week :P....

How's your search for accommodation going? We've now paid the balance for our apartment in Houlgate so we're all sorted.

Kev - we're glad you've found somewhere to stay, St-Romain-de-Colbosc looks good.

We'll be approx. 36 miles apart but it shouldn't be too difficult to arrange a meeting point that's easy to find as you ride west. I'll search for a petrol station or similar located on a main road near Houlgate and post details.

You may already be aware but on the 6th June a 'Regulated Traffic Zone' (RTZ) will be in operation but this may not apply to motorcycles, I'll investigate. For the rest of the week it's access all areas with no restrictions on which roads we can use.

This is the proposed itinerary for our period 2nd to 8th June. We've picked a few of the D-Day 70 events that we'd really like to attend in addition to general sightseeing.

Tuesday 3rd June - Ouistreham and Sword Beach
Includes the Atlantic Wall Museum plus Memorial Flame to French Commandos - 'Kieffer's Green Berets'.

Wednesday 4th June - Carentan and Sainte-Mere-Eglise
Includes the Airborne Museum and Geronimo Camp in Sainte-Mere-Eglise.
2.00pm Commemorative parachute drop from Dakotas - Carentan.

Thursday 5th June - Tour of the Western D-Day Beaches
Includes Omaha Beach, Utah Beach, Pointe du Hoc, Colleville-s-Mer American cemetery and La Cambe German cemetery plus Sainte Marie-Du-Mont Utah Beach museum.

Thursday Night 5th June - Merville Battery
Various events to commemorate the assault by British Airborne Divisions and includes at 11.00pm the 'Norman Coast Illuminations' - 'Over a distance of 50 miles, 24 brilliant, successive, fully automated and synchronised firework displays will light up the sky on all 24 major sites of the D-Day landings'

Friday 6th June - Arromanches (TBC) and Pegasus Bridge
Subject to being able to travel in the RTZ to Arromanches by motorcycle, we intend to get there early for the commemorations and witness the large flotilla of navel ships off Gold Beach.
11.15am Pegasus Bridge commemorative ceremonies.

Saturday 7th June - Creully and Isigny-sur-Mer
10.00am onwards, Creully Air Show which includes 12 replica Typhoons. Held on the former ALG-B9 aerodrome, where the Canadian Typhoons were based in 1944.
6.00-7.30pm Isigny-sur-Mer, approx. 180 military vehicles will parade through the town centre.

Sunday 8th June - Bayeux
11.00am Liberation Parade plus visit to the British cemetery.

Kev – good news, we’re OK for the proposed trip to Arromanches early on the 6th June.

I’ve checked with the local police and government peeps who are running the RTZ scheme and solo motorcycles are exempt  .....
