thank you all, just out of interest i have no problem getting my Halfords shiny ratchet spanners on those heads. Job done now, next is to work back up the exhaust replacing the mounts as they all look knackered.

I've seen some modded bracketry for the bobbins near the front of the motor, is this worthwhile persuing?

Erm - Get a bit of metal bar that'll fit in the space twixt can and inside of bracket. Take it back out! - drill and tap two M8 (or 5/16) and buy two bolts to fit!. Use un-galvanised rubber on the threads - THEY'LL NEVER VIBRATE LOOSE!

Right! ...I cant find my way back to the brackets because I cant remember where, so any suggestions will be most welcome .....old age obviously
