Are you sure it's knackered head bearings causing the 'clunk'. Handling issues often preceed any wear that's likely to cause noise? If they are that bad, the bike would have the handling finesse of a shopping trolley
Have you read all the threads on Badweb about 'clanking' noises from the fork springs under braking?
