So after some fun this morning with a few polishing mops and some lovely pieces of stainless (thanks Al and Pete) my S1 now wears a new shiny exhaust.

I have for now not put the heat shield back on the rear pot downpipe..........so I know how it is with it on.......what's it like with it not fitted....recipe for a burnt right leg or OK? What are other owners experiences?

Speaking from personal experience refit the heat shield. I have melted my trousers trying to run without the shield. Expensive on trousers and the melted material pain to get off the header

As Neil says, stuff stuck on the exhaust is a pain. I came back from Tesco with a few bags on the end of my bars and didn't notice that on the exhaust side I semi-toasted a loaf of bread and some tins of tomatoes and beans must have fallen out of the hole that formed. The exhaust was a mess, but I was in bigger trouble, I had to go back to look for the tins and ended up buying new ones cos one was squashed and the others looked very secondhand... :o

If you used an asbestos shopping bag, you could have a tasty pizza ready by the time you get home ;) lOl

Leave it off. It looks so much better IMHO. I have and it's never been a problem... but then I never ride without leathers.

A brief run out this afternoon to check the pipe and a 2nd hand HSR42 I got from eBay. I managed not to burn myself so will probably leave the heat shield off for now (though I will hanging onto it just in case).

Carb appears to work well, though the throttle cable set up was a bit of a bodge ..... don't tell :maz: and needing some spacers to make it right.

Looks really good. Every time I see a nice white S1W, I want one, but I always end up selling...

Although I have fitted a soacer before...

...the best fix I found was to shorten the cable...

Having read one of your other threads before and I called :maz: to see if he had any recommendations for shortening and he mentioned spacers. I like the idea of spacers as this keeps the cables standard and therefore able to refit the CV if I want without changing the cables.

Not having a lathe to hand hopefully Maz will have some made up again for next time I drop down there.
