Nick – thanks for your interest, we haven’t got stuck into the nitty gritty planning yet so for the time being I can give you the following details....

Hull to Rotterdam ferry:
Outward Friday night 26th June.
Return Sunday night 12th July.

See this topic for an idea of how we organised the 2011 UKBEG Polarsirkel Challenge. We put a lot of effort into the preparation and planning so everything went as smoothly as possible.

As in 2011 we will pre-book Youth Hostels in Scandinavia. They’re reasonably priced compared to hotels etc. and they have private rooms for couples. I know they’re not everyone’s cup of tea but it’s far better than camping, especially in bad weather. We use regular hotels or B&B’s in Germany.

On this 2015 Nordkapp trip daily mileage will average out at 270 miles. The map below gives you a (very) rough idea of our proposed route for the Scandinavian section. It works out at approx. 4,100 miles using Rotterdam as our start and finish point.

Thanks Chris,
It sounds like a great adventure which I will give some deep thought too. Like the idea of hostels instead of camping. I'm not a lover of cold weather but do have the cloths to cover that eventuality! Won't know till new year my commitments but looking good at the moment.
Thanks again.

Nick.

We where there in may 2009 ,man it was a great trip! :yup:
Did a total of 6500km and left one bike behind :? :(
We did also visit a couple local mc's and used there place to stay the night for free.
The people there are very nice and helpful at almost any time of the day/night.

Funny thing was ,before the North kapp at first tollbooth we had to pay for both ways ,as if there is another backroad!

Thanks Mees - I hadn't thought of staying at local bike clubs, it's something to think about when we start planning.

We had a great adventure in 2011 when we did the Arctic Circle challenge in Norway and Sweden. We've always dreamed of visiting the Nordkapp on two-wheels and next year we're finally going to do it.

-----------------------------------------------------
It’s been extended from 15 to 16 days to allow for an extra free day which we’ll spend with Timo*, who’s based in Turku, Finland.

All our accommodation, at 13 different locations, has been booked and we’ve also booked the ferry crossing between Finland and Sweden on Thursday 9th July.

Our ‘door to door’ mileage works out at a minimum of 4,185, which is an average of 300 miles per day, based on riding 14 days. We’ll have 2 free days within the total of 16, one near the Nordkapp, Friday 3rd July and one with Timo, Wednesday 8th July.

* See pictures below, UKBEG member, Timo Närä, visited the UK in July 2008 on his XB9S during a European tour and was presented with the long distance award at Em’s Day, 19-07-08. Timo also rode with us in Norway and Sweden during the UKBEG Buell Polarsirkel Challenge which took place during May 2011 and raised £1,102.50 for Em’s Charity. Although Timo’s Buell broke its belt in the ’middle of nowhere’ in Sweden and it was very cold at the Arctic Circle, it was a fantastic adventure and one of the most memorable two-wheeled tours we’ve ever undertaken.

We hope this year’s UKBEG Buell Challenge raises a similar amount for Em’s Charity and proves to be just as memorable :P .......

Hi CJ, My brothers lad has been living and working in Helsinki for some years now, he is good friends with the editor of Finland's 'most popular' bike mag. I am wondering if an article about your trip maybe to mutual advantage

Thanks Richie – please ask your bruvver to let us have any contact details.

Riding to the Nordkapp may be old hat these days but at the very least our trip is newsworthy because we’re using a Buell (and a Guzzi :4roz:) and, using my best Smashy and Nicey impression, it’s for charity.....
