Well just when I thought my engine running problems were over they come back to kick me. Went for a 20ish mile ride tonight then I stopped for a 30/45 min coffee. Bike stops and fan comes on. Started the bike up after my coffee and the idle is all over the place, above and below 1000rpm,

Common problem IMO. Heated air temp sensor. Needs about a 15 minutes ride to cool down again.

Yes that seems to be what's I've experienced - time to cool down on a run away from stop start traffic. BUT surely this problem can't be right, my bike runs like a dog, when it's like this - can't be right! When my bike was cooling down parked up last night it was dark, hence cooler. The plastic R/H strip near headers has been removed to help cool the engine to allow more airflow - if that makes any difference.

Hard reset is a load of bollox IMO and certainly wont work for an 09.

Ign on, kill switch to 'run' fully open and fully close the throttle 3 times, holding for 1 second at each extreme, ignition off and back on again = job done.

If this is the only way, how frequently would you need to do this cause it's been done a few times before?

Receieved an email from Mat at Trojen and here's what he had to say...

It may be that the temperature sensor in the rear cylinder head is faulty. This is fitted deep into the centre of the head (you can see the wire going down through the square opening in the top of the rocker cover) and is supposed to shut down the rear cylinder spark if it gets too hot. When they go wrong they trip at all sorts of temperatures and speeds and produce a misfire that is sometimes intermittent.

Alternatively (and hopefully not) you may have damaged a valve when the exhaust came out. This is very unlikely as it is running fine most of the time.

Lastly, make sure that the throttle position sensor is set properly as this will also produce uneven idling etc.

It is extremely unlikely to be caused by fitting a different exhaust pipe, and definitely sounds to me like a faulty sensor or TPS reset.

Get the latest update: M31EC311 or so. U.S. flavour recommended.
