The UKBEG Buell Emerald Isle Challenge will take place over the May Day Bank Holiday of Saturday 1st to Monday 3rd May 2010.

Following the success of the first UKBEG Buell Challenge in May this year, which involved riding from John O'Groats to Land's End and raised over £8,000 for the Papworth Hospital Cystic Fibrosis Unit, many people have asked us where the 2010 UKBEG Buell Challenge will take place.

After looking at various options we've chosen an endurance run around the coast of Ireland. This will involve riding approximately 1,350 miles in 3 days - an average of 450 miles per day. The suggested route will consist of open roads, over some of Ireland's largest mountains taking in magnificent scenery and passing some of Ireland's most famous landmarks.

We will start planning the event later this year. This notice is intended to let people know where and when the event will take place and to gauge the level of interest.

General information about Ireland can be found at the Discover Ireland web site.

A few facts and figures for the anoraks :D...
Ireland is an island of 84,288 sq. km (32,544 square miles).
Its greatest length is 485 km (302 miles), its greatest width 304 km (189 miles), and its coastline extends for over 5,631 km (3,500 miles).

The average annual temperature is about 9 °C. In the middle and east of the country temperatures tend to be somewhat more extreme than in other parts of the country. Summer mean daily maximum is about 19 °C and Winter mean daily minimum is about 2.5 °C in these areas.

The mean annual wind speed varies between about 4 m/sec in the east midlands and 7 m/sec in the northwest. Strong winds tend to be more frequent in winter than in summer. Sunshine duration is highest in the southeast of the country. Average rainfall varies between about 800 and 2,800mm.

With southwesterly winds from the Atlantic dominating, rainfall figures are highest in the northwest, west and southwest of the country, especially over the higher ground. Rainfall accumulation tends to be highest in winter and lowest in early
summer.

The annual number of days with more than 1 mm of rain varies between about 150 in the drier parts and over 200 in the wetter parts of the country.

Take GOOD Anoraks!

Any idea where the start and finsh might be, if up my end I could probably arrange something through Provincewide HDB. Any help needed at this end just let me know, I'm more than willing to help any way I can.
