I'm not into arguing with people or slinging insults on Internet forums. Buy it and bin it if you want mate.

Too right Tom. They are second hand motorcycle parts and described as such. There are plenty of people who are sticklers for originality right down to internal parts and these items could be exactly what they want.

By the way. Thanks for pointing out that I'd listed the parts as 2001 instead of 1999. Cheers.

The cynical on here would probably think that had been done on purpose as it's a known fact that 2001 models didn't have any recalled parts.

Well that's the problem with cynics isn't it.

Just for the cynics. It's a 99 bike which I bought in 2001. Simple mistake when listing the parts

Personally I would have listed that as:
Buell X1 Lightning 1999 low mileage, unfinished project :D

I was born on April 1st... lOl

Seriously though Tom, I removed the primary cover on my bike after I bought it, to inspect the primary chain tensioner, and found a hideous after market jobbie. Admittedly a lot worse than the original pre-updated ones, but the thought of what could happen if something came loose in there still makes me shudder.
It's up to you, and I may literally be a genuine fool, but I wouldn't want that on my conscience.

Get where you're coming from, but anyone with Google and a Buell knows that this original part (as well as most of the rest of the standard parts on the bike) could go bad. Who knows why someone would want to buy it? I'm not really interested. Perhaps they do want it for a garlic crusher for all I know.

If you'd have read the listing though you'd Have noticed that Ive actually included a warning in it. There's one on the oil pump drive listing and engine mount listing too.

On a larger scale. Let's face it. Anyone advertising a Buell X1 is selling a parts bin special, and a potential bag of spanners that's liable to go ti*s up at any time anyway. Does that mean that it's wrong then to sell a whole X1 to someone?

I've had 6 or 7 other bikes during the time that I've owned the X1 and they've all either been Japanese or Triumph. The reason for that is that I wanted a reliable bike for proper use and the Buell for the novelty factor. No one honestly buys a Buell X1 expecting miles of reliable, low maintenance, trouble free riding do they?

How many other makes need to have so many of the internals upgraded in order to make them safe? Don't get me wrong, I think it's probably part of the allure of the bloody thing and why I've kept it. But it is a basket case isn't it.

Plenty of BMW's have recalls, the s1000's lunched cranks for fun when they first came out, R1200's had a lot of recalls.
I've had 3 Ducati multistrada's and had some issues with all of them, especially the most expensive top of the range model I have now but you would need a crowbar to get the key out of my hand.
There are exceptionally high mileage tubers on this forum and they are very reliable.

Do the world a favour though and through that oil pump drive in the bin, its no use to anyone.

Andy
