Front fork seal leaking on Buell XB9 (2007) and I'm not mechanically minded. Local Harley shop (Mottingham) want £400-500 to do one seal or £600 to do both but they were at least honest enough to tell me that the job could be done by anyone who knows how to do a Japanese fork as it's not a specialist Buell job. They suggested trying other independent mechanics. Any suggestions? I'm in SE London but could obviously ride out for the day to Kent or Essex.

You could also try any suspension guys that do either road suspension OR moto x bikes.

I would report them to trading standards, that is fraud.

I got a pair of Bonnieville forks stripped, re-chromed, powder coated and rebuilt with new seals for half of that. I did remove and re-fit them myself though.

Are the seals shot due to mileage and use or does the bike sit for extended periods?

I had a weep on mine a while back and a little gizmo called 'Seal Mate' sorted it out, dirt cheap and available online its basically just a plastic scraper that pulls the crap out from the seals and lets them sit properly and seal again. Really simple to use.

At the time I used it the bike was only 3yrs or so old and low mileage so the seals really shouldn't have been worn out but it had been laid up for a while (due to the arrival of a small person), since using this tool I've not had any more issues.

I bought mine new from that dealer in Mottingham, they seemed alright then but that price you've been quoted is just ridiculous. Somewhere on here is a list of the jap part numbers for the seals if you do need them.

The MX and Trials boys, use a bit of photo film to clear cack out of the seals.

Any bike shop should be able to do them for you...
