I ride in town a lot and get about 3K from a front set of EBC pads.

The EBC pads have good "bite", power and work well in the wet. As has always been the case they are quite a good sports pad. They also make a lot of dust and you will need to wash it away or the brakes go off (wait till it rains). Single finger braking is easy as are stoppies. They bed in at around 50 miles in town and start to go "downhill" at around 75% of there life.

The Gold-Fren pads have taken about 75 miles, in town, to bed in. They do not have the instant "bite" of the EBC pads or the all-out power. Stoppies are not much of an option. You can brake ok on a single finger but a good hand full is needed for a fast stop. I can stop dead from 30mph, dry road, within the length of a car.

These are more of a "tourer" than a "sports" bike pad but they do work fine for normal riding. I do not know yet what they are like for wear or in the wet but I had them on a XTZ750 before and do not recall any problems.

Pads are like tyres, it is all about how you ride and what you want from them. On the other hand these cost £13? A mad price and at least one third of anything else. £60 for OEM ones is just a piss take and that disc coating system it uses, IMO, just does not pan out.

Braking CM 55.......cheaper and better than EBC IMO.

You could be right Maz but the Gold pads may be an option for some. I would say, if you do not spend much time in traffic/town, that EBC or better would be the best option as you are not going to use them in the same way.

I tried them, out of interest, because I was on my third set of EBC pads. That is £120 worth . Also had a set of SBS and a the OEM pads.
Fecking bike eats pads if you are hard on the fronts.

I put miles on my bikes so I need to think of the running costs.

Anyway they are not total crap but what you do with your bike is down to you .

Nice write up TFD. What does your disc look like? Is it quite worn? Ever had pulsation through the lever (like it was warped - pad meterial deposits)?

I am a "Braking" user myself, they seem to be a little harder than stock pads and have about 90% of the bite, but have never left deposits on the disc. I wouldn't go back to stock pads. They are probably fine around town, but braking from high speed and keeping the brake on stationary makes a mess of your disc, i.e. braking coming off the motorway and keeping the brake on (inadvertently) as you wait for a gap on the roundabout.

Hi Pash.

I changed from the OEM pads to SBS at about 2K and have used EBC since. The disc is fine and I have only just noted some wear at 11K.

I have just fitted the Gold pads and only done 200 miles on them. They need a slightly different braking technique to get the best from them. What you do is start to brake lightly and then hard-on if you want to pull up fast. I think this is down to the carbon/ceramic make-up of the pad. They seem to be a good match for the disc though but they might wear it more. At the end of the day something has to wear to make them work.

You will not find they are as good as a EBC, or better, pad if you ride the roads like a race track. I have not used them in the wet on the Uly so we will see. They are safe to use, IMO, and silly money at £13 a set. Engine braking is free.

If anyone uses a set of these please note the comments about them and ride safely.

I take "The 5th" on everything because someone is bound to feck things up .

Just fitted the Gold Fren so I'll let you know in a couple of days what I think.

Just take it easy with them for a while, Dude.

Running ebc on the X1 and at 45000 miles are on the 4th set of pads including the original Buell set....also still on the original disc.

Only done 5 miles but what a difference over the OME front brake lever pressure is in nano gram's now

Gold-Fren felt a bit wooden at first but are getting better now they are bedded in. Not the instant bite of the oem pads initially but with progressive pressure haul up real quick. I would use them again.
