I've just tried to fit a FS pulley wheel cover and FS pulley cover to my 2003 XB9, the problem is the spacers on the pulley cover dont appear to be long enough so as I tighten them the cover is hitting the pulley wheel cover? The face of the pulley wheel cover stands out about 12mm from the existing wheel face (ugly rusty looking thing) is this right? Any ideas???

Indeed, as you found out not all XBs have the same belt/pulleys.

YEP! Ok second question: I'm going to remove the belt gaurds and leave the belt exposed, but do I still need to keep the inner stone guard (part 15 on diagram) on?

The 02/03 xb's have a completely different sprocket and belt set. (there is not very much to get for them these days)
And yes if you want to have all covers off ,it's possible because it's your bike!
