Current ride: 04 XB9R Firebolt
Location: Hull, East Yorkshire, but get around abit
So im new to this Buell ownership lark, only had my 04 'bolt a couple of months.
And I've only ridden it a handful of times so far, what with the weather and working away (germany as i type).
Im guessing this question has been asked a plenty and there'll be a thread somewhere but..........

Firebolt or Lightning?

Have i done the right thing? Made the right choice?

Is it generally thought one is better than t'other?

This is mine btw :)

Depends what you want. If you want more power, try an 1125. If you want " different" try to get a ride on a decent tuber.

Horses for courses. Some would say buy an XB12 not an XB9 rather than Bolt or L'ting!

I would say buy both of each. That's a FOURSOME! lOl

Then again some purists would argue that the 9 Bolt was the original XB so you got the best one of the breed! ;)

The only thing that I can recall settingthe XB9 apart was thefact that some of the early XB9 would lock the gearbox up. Due to the work required to fix them, it meant some became worthless. The gearbox was modified and has since been OK.

Some prefer the xb9 because it is smoother and higher revving than the 12 , styling wise some prefer the firebolt others like the streetfighter look of the S .

No Firebolt owners replied yet to give you the gen Elsieem?

I never actually rode a Firebolt as I don't get on with that riding position, but think Firebolt and Lightning share identical frame, engine, airbox, exhaust system, wheels, suspension and drive belt. Only significant difference on the 'bolt are clip on bars and riders pegs being an inch higher to give the prone riding position, different rear subframe and seat, and forward fairing mounting. A number of electronic control boxes are positioned differently to fit into the different bodywork shapes. So you could buy all the bits and change yours into a Lightning over a week-end (2 bikes in one! 8-) . Someone may be along soon to correct me? ;)
