UKBEG Buell Meet, Bovington, Dorset, Easter Sunday 27th March.

This event is extra to the published 2016 Events Diary.

We realise a lot of people will have already made their plans for Easter but having decided last night to visit Somerset and Dorset over the Bank Holiday weekend, we thought we’d arrange an informal UKBEG Buell meet at The Tank Museum, Bovington, Dorset, BH20 6JG, on Easter Sunday, 27th March.

Meet at 11.00am, lunch in the museums café and, if there’s enough interest, perhaps a ride-out in the afternoon to a local beauty spot etc.

For most of us, there's a more appropriate venue for a nice cuppa just a mile down the road... lOl

Thanks for the response; it’s great to have some feedback. Thank you :worthy: ....

We weren’t sure what level of interest there’d be in this Easter Sunday meet, especially with it being a relatively late addition to the events diary. It looks like we’ll have a good number of Buells at Bovington.

As mentioned at the start of this topic we’re darn sarf all weekend. We’ve booked a hotel for 3 nights near Wincanton, arriving Good Friday and leaving Easter Monday.

If you’re into military vehicles etc. (and who isn’t :D) there’s a brief history about their Tiger tank on the museums web site. As a surprise Jane bought me the DVD’s about Tiger 131’s restoration and the history of its development during WW2. I can thoroughly recommend them, they’re professionally produced and the sound quality is excellent. One of the highlights is the first firing up of the restored 60 year old German Maybach engine without the silencers fitted.

We hope to get some pictures of the Buells lined up with some of their military vehicles.

Here’s the link to the museums on-line shop if you’re interested in the Tiger DVD’s: here

Mick, Steve, thanks for confirming.

Our suggestion of a UKBEG meet on Easter Sunday in Dorset is working out far better than we expected ...

Another little fact for.......

That Maybach also went on Op Granby (1st Gulf War), 32 Engr Regt were still using Centurion AVRE which as you all know had a Meteor engine (Similar to Merlin....only didn't run at altitude! lOl ), anyway, ABRO Bovington are the specialists who re-worked the Merlin engines and all obsolete engijnes for the tank museum. Whilst they were rebuilding the Maybach the war kicked off and 32 Engr Regt deployed. The demand for spare Meteors was made and ABRO worked flat out to supply. In the chaos of suppliying said Meteors, a certain Maybach (also a V12 petrol) was crated up and swiftly sent to Kuwait. There it sat until a Regt'l Cent required a pack lift, the crate was opened and a few confused REME blokes stared at the Maybach, it wasn't until someone pulled out the paperwork that it was realised what it was for :!: The crate was closed and return paperwork was drafted lOl

That could make that Maybach the longest serving powerpack in the world! lOl
