I have a 1125CR on loan this week from Black Bear, who are carrying out the 20,000 mile service on our Ulysses.

I've only ridden a couple of 1125's since they were launched and both of them were brand new and still being run-in. This loan example has covered over 2,000 miles so it can be ridden without one eye on the rev counter.

What a stonking motor on the open road - this thing just takes off like no other Buell I've ever ridden. Oodles of power and torque, and acceleration is impressive to say the least.

The CR is a bit on the small side for my 6ft 3" frame but I managed the 160 miles home with just one stop and didn't have too many aches and pains. Incidentally, the fuel light didn't come on and it took just under 15 litres of fuel to cover those 160 miles, which works out at 48 mpg.

I don't like the engine and transmission around town, it feels 'awkward and fussy' with a sort of 'tinny' sound to it. Perhaps the 'slipper clutch' thingy has something to do with it?

There are persistent rumours about a 1125X Ulysses in 2011- now that would be a great package. Erik - just make the 1125X user friendly around town and easier to service/maintain, and I'd be tempted to sign on the dotted line.

I was in today, with the Uly, for an MOT and had asked to try one. I did not because, after sitting on it, I would find the lack of any screen a problem and the lean on the bars, in town, would be a right pain. A shame because it looks like a great bike.

A 1125X Uly sounds great and could be a winner for Buell given how much people like the 12X/XT.

The Helicon motor seems as tight as a tight thing when new but does get more pleasant and far less snatchy when they've got a few k miles on them. With the number of miles you cover Chris, the bike will be lovely by the time you take it back 8-)

Of course, you could just steal it ;) :lol: :lol:

Yes but Adam...if he did steal it, he wouldn't get away because they'd just be able to follow the dots of clutch fluid he leaves behind :!: :lol: :lol:

I've done 4,000 miles on the CR since Tuesday - but don't tell Steve :D....

Seriously, the CR is a brilliant bike and its dimensions are similar to the S1, which ticks all the boxes for me and has heaps more 'character'.

Call me old fashioned, I do prefer air-cooled V-twins (Buell and Guzzi) but I guess there will be a time in the near future when all new bikes will have to be liquid-cooled.

Meanwhile, back on topic :roll:.......

Picture the scene, a sunny Saturday morning, a perfect weather forecast and ahead of me was an eagerly anticipated 160 mile scenic ride down to Black Bear to return this 1125CR and collect our Ulysses.

The day didn't go according to plan. I managed 43 miles on the bike and 117 miles as a bored passenger in a recovery van :(....

We stopped for petrol near Bawtry and when I tried to set off again the engine cut out. The display panel indicated a fault with the sidestand sensor-ma-bob. It started OK at home and had been running perfectly prior to stopping for petrol so I was puzzled as to why a fault would suddenly develop.

Everything appeared to be OK, the sidestand was fully retracted and nothing was obstructing the magnetic sensor. Despite repeated attempts to set off again the bike wasn't going anywhere. The fault didn't clear so I called the RAC. After only a 15 minute wait the nice man from the RAC arrived but he couldn't find anything obviously wrong with the bike. So we waited another hour for a recovery van and trailer to transport both me and CR down to Black Bear.

After Jane had stopped sniggering she performed escort duties on her totally reliable Moto Guzzi.

Not the best way to enjoy the delights of a Buell 1125CR...

Apart from this minor inconvenience we had a great day.

After its 20,000 mile service our Ulysses feels better than ever. Thanks to Jon, Black Bear's Buell technician, for performing his usual magic with the spanners :worthy:....
