UKBEG @ Moto Guzzi 95th Anniversary, Mandello del Lario, Italy, 8th to 14th September.

This trip may be of interest to fellow UKBEG members. There are a few Moto Guzzi owners and enthusiasts within our ranks.

Approximately 20,000 Guzzi enthusiasts from all over the world are expected to attend. Unsurprisingly most of the machines there will be Moto Guzzis but there’s always a good selection of Buells on display. We’ve seen lots of cool Italian and Swiss registered examples of East Troy’s finest at previous events in Mandello.

The main part of the 95th Anniversary event takes place on Saturday 10th September. There are factory and museum tours, special displays and competitions. In addition to the daytime events there’s an evening outdoor party with food and live music. At the end of the evening’s festivities there’s usually a spectacular firework display on the shores of Lake Como.

Ticket prices are still to be confirmed but expect around 25/30 Euro per person for the 95th Anniversary pack and factory pass.

There’s nothing about the event yet on the official Guzzi web site but our good friends at Teo Lamers in Nijmegen have a feature on their web site: here

We expect our total mileage to be in the region of 1,500/1,600 and our route will take us through the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland, before crossing the Alps into Italy. Ideally we’d like to take longer to complete the trip but we’re restricted with time off work. We’ve done this trip before over a period 5 or 6 days and it’s quite manageable.

Our itinerary:
Wednesday 7th September: Hull to Europort Rotterdam 20:30hrs.
Thursday 8th September: Hotel am Stadthaus, Neuenburg, 79395, Germany.
Friday to Monday: 9th to 12th September, 3 nights, B&B Spiaggia Bianca, Onno*, 23865, Italy.
Monday 12th September: Carahotel Basel/Weil am Rhein, Weil am Rhein, 79576, Germany.
Tuesday 13th September: Europort Rotterdam to Hull 21:00hrs.

*Onno is located on the western shore of Lake Como directly opposite Mandello. It’s a 14 mile scenic ride around the bottom half of the lake between the two towns.

Sounds like a great time, except for 20,000 other people. :shut:

What a beautiful region. I went there back in the early 80 for a sports tournament hosted by the TASIS school on the opposite side of the lake near Lugano. We rode scooters all around the lake when it was over.

Is there a track day at Monza planned?

There's a lot of people there but it's a fantastic atmosphere. The trick is to get into Mandello early on Saturday morning and park up opposite the factory in the main display area. The local and national police do a great job keeping things moving and the whole event is very well organised.

I can't find any mention of a track event at Monza on that weekend. I expect Moto Guzzi will announce full event details in the next month or so.

I am so in on this. In the early 1990s I owned a small parts and service center that specialized in Moto Guzzi. I am a huge fan of the marque and I even speak Italian. Count me in.

Joe, that's good news, we're glad you're up for this event.

We'll have to get a plan together. How about meeting us in the Black Forest on Thursday 8th September and then riding across Switzerland and the Alps together? Our hotel in Neuenburg is now fully booked but there are others in the area that have accommodation available.

I presume you're in Stuttgart now?

Done, I'm marking my calendar and can meet you anywhere in the Schwarzwald as it is literally my backyard.

Excellent, currently my bike is in Glasgow, I'm flying up on sept 1st and will do a week in Scotland before heading south. I'll stop in Stuttgart to trade the Bonneville for my Sprint and should meet up somewhere on the road to Italy.

Neuenburg Is 2 hours from my house, perhaps I'll just get up early and meet you the 9th. Either way
I'm in...

How about meeting us at the Hotel am Stadthaus, Marktplatz 1, Neuenburg, 79395, between 9.00am and 10.00am on the 9th? Alternatively we could meet up in Mandello on the 10th. Just let us know which option is best for you.

You’ve probably seen it but just in case you haven’t, Moto Guzzi has put the details for the 95th Anniversary event up on their web site: here.

We’ve pre-ordered our ‘Open House Event Bags’ for collection in Mandello – details shown in that link.

Only 34 sleeps to go before we set off  .....

Cool, I ordered my bag for pick up. What's your route from the hotel, as in which pass will you use? The Splugen is open, I went over it last month.

I'll let you know about the meetup soon. I'll be camping in Lecco or crashing at a friends place in Como, depends on weather.

How many of you are coming down, just the two of you?

Joe

Joe, at the moment there's just us two going thru' UKBEG. We'll be meeting friends from the UK and the Netherlands in Mandello.

As for a route across the Alps, we're planning to use the Simplon Pass, highway 9 in Switzerland and highway SS33 in Italy. Details here.

I've reserved (and payed for) my goodie bag from Moto Guzzi and I'm booked on the 20:30 ferry from Hull to Rotterdam on the 7th, I'll look for you.

I rented an apartamento 10km from the factory for Friday and Saturday night.

Joe out

I need to ride me a Griso, a Stelvio, a Norge, and a California. It's about time for me to get a brand new to me slightly used bike and I'm all over the board. My heart says California, my head says Norge, my wallet says Stelvio is best value, and my inner child is throwing a tantrum for a Griso. What am I to do?

Hmmm, seems like an extensive road testing session is required. There are road tests available at the event in Mandello but all the places may be fully booked.

When I’ve worn out the Ulysses I’ll probably replace it with a Stelvio. I’ve ridden a 1400 and the engine is very good but I don’t like the style of bike(s) that it’s currently fitted to.
