This event offers the unique opportunity to climb inside a Spitfire MK16 and take the pilot’s seat, learn about the aircraft and see what it would have been like to fly a Spitfire.

Because we’ll be at RAF Hendon for a good 3 to 4 hours we thought we’d take the opportunity to arrange an informal Buell meet on the same day.

Meet at RAF Hendon from 10.30am onwards. We’ll have an area reserved for UKBEG motorcycles.

We've had a great ride down from Yorkshire. With the exception of one light shower the weather's been spot on and because we had all day to play around with we could pick a good cross country route.

In keeping with the aeronautical theme of the weekend we called into RAF Duxford this afternoon before continuing onto our hotel near Hemel Hempstead. They say timing is everything, 10 minutes after we arrived a Spitfire took off and started doing a few circuits of the airfield. I'm sure they didn't lay it on just for us, but you never know....

When we were getting ready to leave Duxford a large group of Dutch Harley riders arrived. They were on their way back to Harwich after a 9 day tour of England and Wales. One of the riders also owned a Guzzi and his local dealer was Teo Lamers in Nijmegen, who we'd visited just 4 weeks ago during our Netherlands trip. Talking of Guzzis, my 1100 rolled over 75,000 miles today. I've still got quite away to go to catch Barney, Jane's 110,000 mile Breva 750 ...

I'm still not on a Buell but after next weekend I'll have more free time to finish off the 60,000 mile service on the Ulysses and get that back on the road.

Great to see Chris and Jane today, 4 bikes 1 Buell, Hendon RAF museum is always a good visit, the Spitfire experience was great, whilst Bea sat in the mk16, I was given a tour (very closely) of a mk5 and inspected the repairs done to bullet holes all over it, best £8 I have spent in a long while, then popped into Ace Cafe on the way home, and it was Cafe Racer day big big turn out, got there as the awards were being given out, some beautiful machines, my Cr got a lot of looks and chats,even got a new member for the forum with a 1125r, I know it was an informal meet but people we have to support meetings and each other, think about it if you dont use it you loose it, no rain overcast and a spirited ride home, thanks Chris and Jane for telling us about it, very good call, oh yeh its Bomber command for you Chris..........

We've had a superb weekend darn sarf and it was great to meet up with Ray and Bea today. We're glad they enjoyed their visit to Hendon, we certainly did!

A 423 mile round trip to sit in a 1944 MK16 Spitfire for 15 minutes, was it worth it? you bet ... Today's event follows on nicely from the R J Mitchell tribute we did over the Easter weekend.
