Anyone out there need an alternative muffler idea? "The Beast" was too loud after the SSR2 blew out, and the EBR replacement lasted about 2k miles before it was toast. I went on a quest to come up with a muffler that

1) Would preserve the sound without making my ears bleed on a long trip.
2) Would preserve that "all business" look I like in the EBR race muff.
3) Would preserve the tuning Erik Buell intended.
4) Would not blow out after a few thousand miles.
5) Last, and most important, it had to hit the points above and not cost twice what I paid for my first car.

After 2000 miles on the system, it looks like I may have a viable DIY replacement for the venerable EBR race muffler and the SSR2. It is Do It Yourself, and not for the faint of heart, but based on what I've read here there are a lot of folks who can handle it.

I'm happy with my Buell Pro Race on S1 #1 and X1 and my Albert headers (very similar to Buell Pro Race) and Buell Pro Race muffler on S1 #2. All fitted with the Maz mount...

To save putting the MOT tester in a difficult situation, a Remus baffle goes in, however with a pair of ear plugs, the noise is a joy on long trips...

Sounds like the EBR race muff isn't blowing out for you like it did for me. That's good to hear. The packing was gone in about 2000 miles, leaving the baffle to rattle around loose.

I don't have a "Maz" over here, just a bunch of arrogant Harley wrenchers who eschew the Buell because it's not a Sportster, the "intended" Harley sport bike. I'm stuck coming up with my own answers. I'll keep lurking around the edges here, picking up ideas from folks who actually WANT a good Harley based sport bike.

I don't know if you can get Acoustafill over in the US but it's the best there is. If you pack with sheet material, use a bit of paper masking tape to fit it. This soon burns out and allows the sheet to fluff up a bit.

I think I have a packing kit I picked up from American Sportbike before Al retired. My EBRrace muff was already too far gone, baffle tube beyond repair (2k miles?!)

If anyone is interested PM me. I'd dump it for the cost of shipping alone. I solved my problem with classic American overkill.
