I have ridden bot the RC8 & 1125 but did not try the RC8 on a track. The RC8 is probably faster but not that it would make any dfference on the road. The Buell is obviously better value for money, but will depreciate faster.

I guess value for money is very relative. Spoke to a guy with a 40K Ducati today - Titanium foot pegs were offered to him for an extra £3K. His mate dropped one in a garage forecourt - £8K of damage. Rich boys

I spent a week 2 years ago on a trip through Europe with an old school-friend of mine who owns a KTM 950 Adventurer, swapping with my Buell M2 about 50/50 of the time. I really love it, it's a proper bike for properly tall people (I am 6"5, my friend 6"6), very fast and quite good in light terrain without being wobbly on-road. Unfortunately, like with Buells, KTM ownership is plagued with incompetent dealer-mechanics and exotic maintenance costs. Even the KTM singles (like my old LC-4 that I had for a year) cost a fortune to run. KTMs are quite special and very "focussed" but you can ride a Japanese alternative for a fraction of the money while barely lacking a fraction of the fun.
Maybe it's an age thing, but the more I earn, the less I want to spend it on bikes

Cos I was contemplating an RC-8 / 1125r / SP-2...

I have ridden both RC-8 and 1125r, but not back to back. I have never ridden an SP-2 and I don't want an Aprilia.

In reality, I think my Firebolt is quite enough for me, with my S1 for "high days and holidays"

Just out of interest, why not Pash? Mille, Tuono, Falco, RSV are all big twins that have been praised to the rafters as fast, comfortable, brilliant handling bikes with surprisingly good build quality. They had a problem with spares availability for a while, but that's history now.

So why would you rule out the whole brand?

(I declare an interest as a former owner of multiple Aprilias and a big fan of the marque)

All good bikes, as is the RSV-R I had one, but if it is handling your after, for the road, IMO a Buell is hard to top. If it is a track tool you want then the RSV-R would be very good.
