Virtually all modern bikes are poorly put together. They are bought by gullible consumers as fashion items, not work-horses, so why would manufacturers bother with boring things like longevity or economical maintenance?
My 51-reg M2 with 60k is actually in better nick than my '02 reg Yamaha 850 with 55k, not to mention the happily rotting and electrically unreliable Honda Africa Twin and 2 mechanically fragile BMW R1100 (RS and RT) I owned over the last 10 years.
My older BMWs were very well built and cheap to own, but not overly exciting. You can't have it all

Do you know what, in my experience, I have never seen a manager ask anyone to do a shoddy job. Why would they ....?

On the other had I have seen the "heroric workers" take the piss left , right and centre
Sleeping on the job, clocking in for others, skiving, throwing sickies (bad back and stress, yeah, right), not following proceedures, taking "shortcuts" etc etc etc...

I think this sort of sums it up.

I bought a Buell knowing, mostly, what I was getting into and that should be the case with any product you buy. Also if you buy new tech products then you can get problems. It is a fact of life in the consumer world.

Learn how to spanner your bike or at the very least know if it is right or wrong if you get a dealer to do it. A point in case are tyre people. Never trust anyone because if you do your going to die.

Virtually every feckin thing made today seems to be shoddy. Gearboxes went on the van and Mrs Dusty's car well under 50,000 miles, with horrendous replacement costs. The latest generation of Ifor Williams horse trailers, whilst looking smart, are total shite. Our current second generation model is rubbish in comparison to the old ones.

In our business, it would be really nice to have products that you can "take out of the box" with the confidence that there will not be a problem of some kind.

If this is the result of alledged price driven demands by the consumer, well, we are getting what we deserve

On the positve side:

My 52 year old Lister driven saw bench can still give you a nasty bite

My 43 year old tractor is as sweet as a nut

My wife of 30 plus years is reliable and relatively economical

My 24 year old telly is still A1

My 12 year old Buell still makes me smile

And no, I do not rate my tractor more than my wife, it's just chronological

Getting back to the point. Are there any indications that this is anything more than a temporary close. I for one like my Buell with all its bits falling off and quirkyness. FFS is this UKBEG or not

Yep. I think like a lot of the owners of the early tubers, whilst we may occasionally waver, we would not sell them

That's the black sheep of the family.

Not sure how they can suffer from re structuring unles HD completely pull the plug as HD only have a 49% share.
They don't build a bike that everyone wants only those of us discerning riders.
