Usually the opposite, hard to get off. The rubber grips like hell once warmed

its in the ACU handbook for road racing " Sump plug, oil filters, Ignition pickup covers and Clutch centre covers should all be lock wired or lock plated."
IIRC in the early days of the Suzuki GSXR racing they lost a few filters , high rev's, high flow rate ,cooling as well as lube or the result of incorrectly fitted , but rules soon appeared to ensure mechanically locked .

Never ever had an oil filter come loose on any vehicle , the only. time I've heard it happen was with aftermarket filters that would screw on to the engine BUT were actually the wrong thread.

I had the filter on my Ducati 1198 come loose after taking part in the Ramsey Sprint. I hate worm drive clips because they can be a bit 'pinchy', so made my own clamp. Mine is the only instance I know of this happening.

Totally get what folks are saying about effectively fixing a problem that doesn't exist. My take is that the bike is a total unknown to me so far and this is a 50 pence insurance policy against disaster. I've always done this since the days when I used to prep race bikes. (Longer ago than I care to remember) Maybe not necessary but it's reassuring.

The jubilee clip idea is recommended on Guzzi V11s like I own. The filter is inside the sump and has been known to unscrew so no oil dripping on the floor to warn you, the first sign would be loss of oil pressure and a scrap engine.

I might do that yet, there's NFW I'm tightening it to 40nm like the manual says, that's for sure. (Surely that's a mis-print?). The OCD is strong in this one so i might buy a new drain plug and wire that one. I've used the Loctite 565 that the manual suggests but it's not a product i've ever used before.

That's a handy place to keep it! You must like your big V-Twins. Had a Guzzi 1000SP before. A friend has it now. Bags of character that thing.

new o ring and nip it up ,then lockwire you sound like you've been around bikes long enough to know when things are tight . big lumpy twins do tend to vibrate and things fall off , I like Loctite 222 , just a low strength screw lock on fasteners .
