Just a thought but what bearings do the EBR's use?

Couldn't say to be honest Kev but I would be very surprised if EBR use the same bearings as it's the availability that's the issue. The original Nice 38s are no longer made, the company that took over Nice (I think RHF) don't make them now either. Believe me when I say I've searched, the size is imperial 1 and 9/10ths I believe or 48.9mm and the flange mount makes finding an alternative nigh on impossible.

If you can find any, the price is outrageous, the last set I bought from Maz were £98, that was a few years ago and I was pissed off about the price then. Twin motorcycles had some in a couple of weeks ago at 80 Euros each + vat + delivery. I'm simply not prepared to pay that kind of money if I can modify something else to fit.

The bearings I'm using are SKF's at £10 each including postage, Fag also do the same bearing for £7.40 and there are plenty around as they're still in production for future replacements. The bearing sleeves are a one off cost and cheap to make anyway. Add to that, that I have two 1125r's and no view to parting with either, it makes perfect sense to me to take the route I have.

Have a great day Folks. Paul.

I'm still looking over here to see if you made progress!
So waiting for the final conclusion and hoping on a good result. :worthy: :yup:

Making this kind of things take time ,so take it!
Cheers

Results are in.

Last test run 21/08/23

With 35nm torque on the bearings, after the run decided probably somewhere between 35nm/30nm

No discernible difference between this setup & standard. Handles just fine. Hands off from high speed to 35mph, no evidence of any roll, weave, judder or anything detrimental.

Did one of my regular 30mile runs at the speeds I normally do (fast) with minimum fuss & pretty much, maximum confidence.

The fork suspension was slightly out as I'd probably turned the legs while I was fitting them, but I'll sort them and any other little niggles soon enough.

This set up performs fine and will do till I make the new set of interference fit bearing sleeves now I know what I'm working with.

Pretty much a success and well pleased with it.

Have a great day Folks. Paul.

Hi folks,

Got the new set of steering sleeves made & SKF bearings fitted. The sleeves are shorter & the tolerances are tighter. Also modded a spare steering stem & drove that back into the bottom yoke so the whole set of yokes & bearings is sitting ready to fit.

I had another run on out the ones fitted already, nothing much wrong with them excepting the cheap bearings, so I'll probably just run them to see how long they last.

Have a great day folks.
