Not mine, but if you do a search here and on the old forum, you will find plenty of entertainment...

That's a bugger with a bike designed to self-destruct at 10k miles.

You might say it met it's design intent, but the rest of the bike surpassed it...

Well i phoned the HD garage in slough looking for advice as i know they are a great HD shop. I asked about the belt being covered by warranty and they said it should be and if it wasn't they would of change it for good will. So i phoned the HD shop in edinburgh and they said they'd not replace it, i said how disappointed i was that i only got 3k out of it since i bought it went they told me i'd see 30k with that belt. They said to send it to them so i've done that with a letter but not heard anything back yet. but i'm guessing the worse outcome is coming. Does anyone know about panther belts?

Davylat,

Sorry to hear about your woes.

As a bit of background, Buells do snap belts - fact.

Edin HD are still quite new to the game. Some of their staff came across from the old Kawasaki dealership on Slateford Road that closed a few years ago. They understand bikes but don't understand Buells or how HDBUK work.

HD/B have a kind of moving goalpost (sorry, ball-sport reference) on whether a belt is guaranteed or not. The longer established and more Buell-orientated dealers are better at fighting their corner on this issue. Edin HD/B don't fall into this category yet.

3k from a belt is crap, but don't expect a belt to last for the life of the bike. Weigh up the cost of a new C&S, agro of adjusting a chain, cleaning lube off the back wheel and also the consequences of snapping a chain (done this twice, once on a Stan Stevens RD 430 at 110 mph on the M4 and once on a GPZ100 B2 at 60 mph on one wheel). The first snapped chain took a chunk out of the crankcases and came damn close to removing the pillion's foot, the second just made me look like a prat when burning off a GPZX 600 at the lights).

Anything under about 15k from a belt is not really reasonable unless someting "catastrophic" happened to it (this includes a tyre place twisting it - don't ever twist that belt).

Go with the dealer that will fight your corner.

Dave

Isn't someone on here an HD/Buell dealer?
Maybe they can get the belt for you at least?

I don't think the warranty has to be with the supplying dealer.

My dealer is Edinburgh....

Edinburgh seem to be getting better - had a very good experience the other day.........was only in for a tyre but now considering using them over the (laughably bad) West Coast

phoned them today and they won't cover the belt but will sell me 1 cheaper than normal, but its still more than i can really afford at the moment. they said there looked like a small cut at the side but i'd have to disagree with them on that. The guy on the service desk was helpful though which was good but the only thing is they don't stock belts and will take a week to come!!!!

so which HD garage is the worst?
I'm interested to hear what people think.

Apart from Manchester HDB and Blackbear, they're all next to fuckin useless....Edinburgh are probably the worst in the UK.

I think that this level of service is utter shite. Surely a dealer not carrying a belt in stock is completely unacceptable? They wouldn't get a penny out of me.

If you want a good dealer then use Mchr or Blackbear, they will go out of their way to be helpful 8-)

Half hour to fit the belt, 2 hours to get your Buell mountain bike seat un-wedged from his arse.
