Hi all. I've just returned from a cracking run down the A76, Cumnock to Dumfries road, putting about 160+ miles on the bike. If anyone is familiar with this road you can guess that I got rid of most of the chicken strips even though I'm still running it in
When I got back I noticed my left boot was covered in oil. I checked the engine and there was oil on the left hand casing, which to my untrained eye looked like it was coming down from somewhere around the airbox.
OK it was only a small amount of oil but it had slipstreamed back to the tyre and belt pulley area. Not good
I've a feeling it's maybe coming from a breather, but then the bike is so new to me I'm pretty much clueless about where it could be coming from. Should I just give it a good wipe and (carefully) see if it returns, or is this a sign of something more serious?
It's a right pita to check the oil at the moment without a paddock stand or any other method of keeping the bike straight so I can only guess what the oil level is. Again not good. I'll need to try and rig something up tomorrow and check as best as I can.
I'm not exactly ecstatic about oil pissing over the rear tyre and drive belt, especially when my 32 year old Z1000 (with a sight glass

) is and always has been tight as a drum. Modern technology, eh?
Any thoughts on why this has occurred much appreciated.
