After an attempted theft of bike last night im just wondering what alarms or other security people have on their bike?

I have to leave my bike outside at night and even though its right outside my bedroom window (downstairs flat) i never heard a thing.

Luckily the only damage seems to be a bent set of handlebars off them trying to smash the steering lock, didnt manage though, but the ignition does feel a bit dodgy sometimes when turning the bike on, possibly some internal damage off the force.

It would be a good idea at this point to strip the steering down and check the condition of the steering stem. It isn't unusual for an attempted theft to damage the steering stem so that it can jam. This does not improve your day as you're riding!

Hi David - if your parking area permits it, I would suggest using a quality ground/wall anchor with the strongest chain/lock you can afford. In my experience electronic devices/alarms are more trouble than they're worth.

Check out Captain Cropper on youtube. He shows you how long it takes to go through some of the chains that are >£100 with a set of bolt cutters.

Almax come out best.

I use the Buell as a ground anchor for my mountain bike.

Just paint the Buell logo on the tank Dayglo yellow. If they can see it's a Buell they'll leave it alone (or maybe even stick a fiver under the saddle strap in commiseration :P )

Yeah, I got an Almax after watching those videos.
Got a series III chain, squire lock and a Kriega tailpack for it for around £140.

My pal just spend £120 on an Oxford chian and there is a big difference in thickness of chain and just general 'solidity' of the lock etc.
