Nate. It's an XR1000 motor. Yes, they're rather different from the typical XL type power plant used in all Buells to 2002 except for RR1000 and Blast.

The XR motor is arguably the most successful racing motor of all time. Personally, I think it's a disgrace that HD markets it's latest Shitester as an XR without even attempting to make it look like one :roll:

The oil tank is beaten like that to give it more surface area, I suppose a bit like the scallops on tanks like the Manx Norton. This was done (for a different reason) to give more area where the bottoms were brazed into the tank. A lot of people (incl the Curator of the Nat. Bike Museum :roll: ) thought it was just decorative.

judging by the c,r and s sticker it has been either sponsored or owned be roberto crapaldi in italy? anymore history on it?
tubbs you have to build a replica- to me this is a true buell, a real brute of a thing! :clap:

Hmmm, given that the motor is an XR1000 Harley mill (that's fair enough, though I can see bits on that motor that are not originally XR1000), the only bits of Buell that I can see are the frame and the swing arm and that's been modified as well. Doesn't particularly bother me, but the more I think about it the more convinced I am that it is not what it says on the tin. The really important Buell parts are all missing.

There were two versions of the swinging arm, one braced and the other unbraced. The bloke exhibiting had some copies of the drawings of the braced version that were sent to him by John Flickinger(sp) I was surprised that these drawings were so freely available!

Cheers Adam, I think if you have a race licence the factory has always been supportive like that. And lets be honest, who's going to make a swing arm for a 20 year old Buell from the factories drawings! Even as an ordinary punter I've found the factory supportive when I've asked them anything about my old RS1200-5. The old bikes are still Erik's intellectual property under EFB Designs.

I've been thinking about your comments on the motor not being completely pukka all day, (I'm obviously not busy enough at work :roll: :lol: ). The Timing chest area looked more XL rather than XR to me when I saw it but as I'm not too familiar with the race motor, am I barking up the right tree?

I was too busy going 'Ohooo' and 'Ahhh' when I was fondling it, rather than asking searching questions :D
