after seing dakar's thread for 1125. I thought it would be an idea to do same on XB12s.
as like me must be a lot of new owners on here, who could benefit from knowing about problems before rather than after they happen, maybe take steps to prevent them ect ??

13k miles and the single problem I've had is that every 120 miles or so it runs out of fuel- that's it. Lucky me.

My 54 plate as done about 12000 miles too. Bought it new, added a bundle of Trojan Horse bits and bobs at about a year old. No problems with the bike what so ever.

Dunno where the press get off with their usual summary - fuel in the frame, oil in the swinging arm (yawn, we know) reliability issues. Says who??!?

good new so far. must be a lot more folks here who can add to this.

Maz, if your reading this, have you anything to add?? as I'v noticed you are not a lover of xB, I dont know if you think they are a shit bike/eng, or if you dont like the style ect. your input would be appreciated

I did 18,000 miles on a 2005 xb12R and the only parts changed were the rotor washers & springs/bolts.

I have a 2008 xb12Scg now with 6000 miles and I have had to change the front wheel bearings.

On both bikes apart from regular services/tyre changes - they have been 100% reliable. (Apart from the taiwanese bearings on the Scg of course)....

aye the bearings, tbh the sales person in shop was honest enough to say when {not if } the wheel bearing break up replace them with real bearings. im fine with that in fact I might even do them before I register the bike, kinda eliminate the problem before it gets here.
anybody got a horror story to tell about xb ownership??? please post here as I'd rather be forwarned of any problems.
I'v noticed a few folks dont think highly of the xb but cant find anything in search,???

Midlife, I suggest that you read and digest this how to, it may save you a shedload of money - not saying it is a problem - but I took the precaution on both of my XBs and you know what they say, prevention is better than cure !

If you want to know the cheapskate version ask the question - somebody will let you know !

I had a clutch housing fail. The recess that the clutch actuator fits into broke. Pain in the ass as it was just out of warrantee. I thing it was poor adjustment at the 5000 mile service. This happened around 7000 miles.

Drive belt at about 8000. Fitted the freespirits tensioner no problems since. Now at 16000. I now do all my own servicing.

I've had my XB12Ss for 3 days now and no problems

Which is better than when I bought my S1 in 2000, got it home and it p!ssed oil out of the derby cover within minutes of parking it up on my drive!

So I'm impressed with improvements in reliability
