 Post subject: Opinions on the 1125R

Having sold my Ducati 748S, I’m looking at replacing it with another V Twin.
I’ve looked at the usual suspects from Aprilia, Honda etc but for some reason keep coming back to an 1125R.
I like the innovation and standing out from the crowd (Is this not one of the reasons we’re bikers?) however, having scanned these pages I’ve got a few questions.
1. Overall opinions on the bike?
2. What of the reliability? I’ve heard various stories about clutch seals / brake line recalls etc. I wouldn’t expect Honda reliability from a niche manufacturer but I do prefer to ride my bikes rather than fix them. Anything in particular to look for?
3. Service costs? It seems that the XB range can be pretty pricey to service, what about the 1125R (Hopefully no more than the Ducati was!)

Although a few dealers seem to have them at £5,995 at the moment, I’m aware prior to Christmas you could pick one up nearer the £5,000 mark. Seems like a lot of bike for the money although not keen on the sudden price increase.

You really need to ride one. The motor is a gem, gobs of torque everywhere.Mine was the first privately owned one in Europe, so it's a keeper but buy as late a model as you can find :yup:

I'm really over the moon with mine.
I like the whole story behind the bike and now I know the recalls have been done/the problems don't seem too serious (that's what a warranty's for innit?) I'm satisfied that it's the bike for me.
Now all I need is some good weather and not to crash it/lose my license ;)
Wholly recommended. :yup:

Oh, and personally (to quote someone else), I would go for the limited edition one with the blue frame and the Erik Buell signature 8-)

Yep - every 12,000 miles - unless somebody can work out how to do it without dropping the engine !!! Not likely if :maz: hasn't worked out a way ...

I am lucky to have the two extremes of Buell-dom, the S1 and the 1125R (and an XB in the middle). The 1125R is a great bike, is VERY fast, but too fast for me... I think I am an air-cooled lump fan...

The engine rotates in the frame doesn't it? The valves probably need checking around this time too, so it's worth it.
Can you get to it by removing the snorkel intake at the front? One of these guys managed it:

Badweb bloke is full of shit ie. he admits to having to lift the frame off the engine.......same as rotating it down then :roll:

The stick coils are around 5'' long.......clearance between the frame and front cam cover is around 1 1/4''......you do the math :idea:

Don't do it. Get a TL1000R instead. Wish I had. :headbang:

Different bloke posted the pics than the one that mentioned frame removal, but TBH haven't had a look at it in real life, so I'll take your word for it Maz. :worthy:
