After my ride out today, noticed oil on my right boot, yes the clutch leak is back, but only done about 1000 miles since it was done last time ?

I never saw any proof that the dealer i bought it from had actually done the work though, they said it was but it supposedly the bike had under gone a PDI and by the time i had got it home the front wheel bearing was shot ? possible coincedence ! but i think this is just a case of rubbish dealer.

How hard is this updated clutch seal kit to fit ? is it a DIY job.

Why not just have it fixed by the stealer... its stiull under warrenteee.

Anyway replace the seal and it'l only leak again.

Is there not an updated kit that doesnt leak ? or do they all leak eventually ?

What would happen if i blocked that little hole up !

You'd pop the puck off most probably. And if not force the fluid the other way.

Hi Avalaugh,

There is a replacement slave piston sleeve for the clutch, it has a dark coating on it, like teflon. If you have it, when you remove the puck, you can see it's dark outer edge around the piston, if you have not got it, that edge will be bright ali.
This update is worthwhile, yet to see a leak from a clutch that has had it done, old or revised clutch cover.
While the job isn't that difficult, there is a special tool for doing this, so would let dealer or someone with the tool to do it for you. Anyway, the bike has a warranty, so I'd say use it.

Thanks Jon, i will call the local dealers in the morning as im waiting on a new IC at the moment too, and get them on the case.

Do you have the part number for the revised kit, ill give it to them and hopefully they will get it sorted for me.

The special tool is a 17mm deep socket that you can mill (or file) two flats on to hold it by, since you need access down the centre of it.

Avalaugh, I think that the lastest version of the clutch kit is part number - X2086.1AM - hydraulic piston/sleeve kit.

Took it down to them this afternoon, had a worrying experiance !

Told them the problem, "have a coffe and we will take a look" so enjoying the coffee looking at loads of chrome harley stuff.

"Can you pop in the workshop please, we cant see a leak from the clutch"

I enter the workshop, the mechanic is looking at the left side of the bike, i tell him its the other side, and hey presto there is the oil. A bit embarrassed he continues on his quest to find the leak. He then shows me the O ring from the puck on the clutch cover and say's and i quote "must be from this, its a bit loose and isn't making a seal, ill order one up for you"

I explain that the oil is coming from the hole in the clutch cover, which is a sign that the piston seals are leaking, and he then continues on his quest.

I'm now watching over him through the window as he flicks through the workshop manual, he comes back to me again explaining that its the seals on the piston and he will order some up ????

Having my concerns i ask to see the parts on the computer screen, £0.74 each or something like that and by now im getting a bit agitated trying to explain that there is a updated seal kit.

Long storey short they have ordered up a new piston + seal kit which was £217 something.

Does that sound right to you guys in the know ?

I'm worried now that they will just fit the seals and not the complete kit, as when they done my front brake line recall work, i waited ages for it to arrive and after the work was completed, all that had been done was routed the original line round the outside of the forks, which i beleive was easyer for them as the front wheel was off having the wheel bearing replaced at the same time.

Think its time to start doing the work myself !
