.........can you usually expect to get from your engine (xb12s),assuming its been serviced regularly etc,before things start going the way of the pear,and you start to have major problems?,is there a limit?.

i think the gearbox is the weakest link,
if that goes you gotta strip the whole motor to fix it.

i always changed the gearbox oil when i did the engine oil, bit of cheap insurance.

15000 miles i got out of mine before it died a death

17,300 and still no funny noises.

i let it warm up for a couple of minutes while before riding off

dont do short rides that dont get the motor warmed up (at least an hour ride minimum ).

change engine and transmission oil every 2500. hd oil is fine and cheap

I've currently got 30k on the clocks and no funny noises or vibrations. I am a firm believer in warming an engine up before cranking on it. (S3T)

Nah, just keep up with the repairs until you reach 30k and it will never break again

This doesn't make for very reassuring reading.

Until recently I was doing 40k miles a year. Now it is about 10k, and i'm not in a happy place at the thought of my beloved bike kicking the bucket any time soon. Despite the image, these bikes aren't really to be ridden hard then?


I'll look into doing the nipple mod. Not by me, of course, but a mechanic. Any recommendations/ideas on cost?
