So is it safe to assume that while the ranks of old-school buellers continue to thin, the xb's will start to die off, and the forum will then be stacked with all manner of 1125 :yc: 's, their ranks swelled by all who bought on the cheap after Buell's demise, and who don't really even give a rat's ass if their bike is a v-twin, never mind air-cooled? The "natural progression" of the brand?

Pardon my Amerispeak.

Man o Man can't believe how people get so upset over a question that can effect most bikers? Maz you never did say what exactly ticked you off about what I was asking?.........................actually I don't really care cause you rarely post anything constructive on my threads anyway.............nothing changes there then!

Look, how my bike has these salt marks this bad is beyond me? I've used ACF50 and Scott oiler FS365 I think it's called and I still get this. I do look after my bike and tbh the heat fins you see in that photo are hidden from sight cause I took that photo when I stripped my bike to change the headers on Saturday.

All I'm asking is for some advise from people who may know something I don't. I've read baking soda can help but I always like to ask first. Yes I will spray more ACF50 from now on!

Why don't you try bicarbonate of soda and vinegar?

There is an uncomfortable, underlying (and sometimes not so) eliteness that exists amongst the genuine replies here. Most people i'm sure turn to specialist sites when they've got a problem or a query about their product. Here it is a bike. This ensures that a large proportion of the posts are going to be repetitive; and the same or similar questions are going to be asked time and time and time again by people just like me who aren't members of bike clubs or who don't have throngs of bike riding friends/neighbours to rely upon for 'hands on' advice. I bet this gets frustrating to those who are more specialist and more capable with a spanner.

It is here that the internet is its own worst enemy sometimes. It is now far easier to get a 'little knowledge' (and we know how dangerous that can be..) online. There are youtbube clips, downloadable guides and forum experts etc, etc who are there to walk us n00bs through the limitations of our understanding. Non of it really replaces taking your bike to a good mechanic, of course not, but how many of us can afford to do that for what the internet tells us is only a 5 minute job? I'm not blaming the internet entirely btw, it is a tool and what is it we say about bad workmen?

I've been working in my area of interest (mental health) for 15 years now. I graduated from Cambridge, have a list of letters after my surname that makes it look as though i'm from Poland and get work published on a semi-regular basis. This does not mean I know all there is to know about mental health, this does not mean that I invented mental illness and this does not mean that my opinion about said topic is to be taken as absolute fact. Do I get a bit frustrated by the scores of people nowadays who have the lexicon of mental health drip fed to them by lazy contemporary lifestyles? Yes, of course I do. I get massively fucked off that people can't just be a bit depressed every now and again anymore, they have to suffer with 'depression'. They can't be arsed to put in some thinking time and ground work to help themselves, they just want tablets and a diagnosis and a magic wand and a quick fix and thanks very much I can have a month of work now etc, etc. It does irk, and sometimes I do let them know as much. Not much of a comparison I know, but its all I can compare it too. I don't want to get burnt out, but it is easy to understand how people can become so readily fucked off with perceived displays of incompetence. I'd like to learn more about spannering. I don't intend to give up, far from it, but you can tell I need a lot of help. Some people are good with numbers, or with the written word or with patting their head whilst rubbing their tummy. Some people make spannering look like a piece of piss.

I wasn't aware that I'd bought the wrong Buell either. They should have told me at the shop or at least put a sticker on the tank:

"Buell is a small, specialist brand and their bikes have a devout, partisan following. Well, all of their bikes apart from the newer ones. They're a bit shit by comparison to the old-school and you'll get sniggered at and looked down upon by those who don't really want you to be part of their identity. Should have got a Honda"

My Buell was purchased after the price crash. This was not the main reason I got the bike; I'd actually always wanted a Buell but now I could afford one. I'm sure there are plenty who were in the same situation, and the temptation of getting something that is (putting it politely) quirky becomes more so when the price is right.

Having said all that, what do I know? I'm the dildo that shoved a screwdriver through an oil filter and posted pictures on the internet about it. Maybe some other n00bs will look to the internet for advice and take my little (lack of ) knowledge and not make the same mistakes :)

Docca that was a good post :yup:

The way I see it, yes I can research internet and get some ideas but it's better to ask Buell related questions on a Buell website. Let me give an example. HD had my bike for 9 weeks and when I collected it there was a mark on the engine casing. I was in a rush and mistakenly thought I could just clean it off so I rushed off as I was already late for something. Upon trying to clean the side cover it was clear it was not dirt but a scratch. The black finish on the Buell engine covers are unique, or at least I have not had a bike before with similar finish. Now HD said they can sort that out - I have my doubts but will let them have a go. But if I wanted to know how best to make good the engine cover then I would ask here and not on some other website or whatever. Now considering the heat fins are made of same metal and finish as engine case it seems fitting to ask for advise where I'm more likely to get a good answer if one exists?

Seems to me that on this site that you are more respected if you know all the answers! But if you know all the answers why are you here if not to share with the rest of us who want to learn? Or maybe the ones in the know just want to have their own little club and keep themselves to themselves?

I've worked in the motorcycle trade for 29 years and as a Buell dealer for 13 years but I don't pretend to be at all technical. There are many on here who have phenomenal technical knowledge and are happy to give it. Where they seem to get frustrated is when new folk come on asking really elementary questions like "What Oil?" or "What Tyres?" which they could easily find the answer to by using the "Search" facility.

Having tried this and not found the necessary information a humble approach is probably favoured. Something like "sorry if this has been asked before but I'm new here" probably elicits the best response.

Your approach, Docca, has been an exemplary one. Totally up front and unassuming and I would say the response you received was pretty good until it became clear that comments like "step away from the spanners" were probably the most helpful :)

Your response on this thread is obviously based on feeling that ph4824 is being given the same offhand treatment that you possibly feel you are receiving.

Sadly there is a lot more history behind this as you will undoubtedly find on all forums. ph4824 has received a mass of help and support on here from many people and he has generally chosen to ignore it, go his own sweet way then come back several weeks later to ask the same thing :?

My advice to you, Docca would be to go and visit Maz so he can perform the necessary tasks and instruct you as he goes. In return you can probably give him some help with his mental health issues lOl Take a very large pot of chill pills with you.

Sadly ph4824 has passed this stage some time ago so I would not recommend the same course of action. The same mental health issues could manifest themselves as bruising to the person seeking advice

Hope this helps

Steve

FUCKING HELL arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want a rise out of me then just keep repeating that same old lie thrown at me time over again........"he doesn't listen", "he ignores advise on this forum", ph4824 you're not listening"!!!!!!!!

1. I sought advise on here about buying an exhaust system before I bought my bike
2. I bought an exhaust system from someone on here
3. I've had problem with bike since fitting exhaust to which many questions came
4. I followed every bit of advise given but made it clear changing exhaust back to std was last resort.
5. Harley had my bike for 9 weeks
6. Saturday I change my exhaust back and now my bike is 100% std

So if you can suggest ANYTHING I have not done that has been suggested then I'm all ears! I think many old timers on here have the older Buells and lack the knowledge about the problems I have been having with the newer model. Even Harley USA didn't know what the problem was after many weeks of testing my bike! All advise given from here was out of a spirit of "try this, try that" without any experience of said problem even though most advise was given with best intentions. I think people got tired of reading my posts about same old intermittent problem (which never went away) and then for some it became personal.

When I ask a question, don't expect every suggestion to be followed up immediately cause half the time suggestions conflict! For some I am a hated target but I won't be bullied by anyone! For those who have met me and spoken to me I tend to make friends with. But some here are quick to judge! Although I hate the way some have treated me on here from day one, but the rest are great!!

Anyway, going back to my first question on this thread, I have now soaked my bike in scot oil FS365 after a wash and bike looks good! Not sure if suggested "bicarbonate of soda and vinegar" is a wind up or genuine considering some of the comments I get? It's hard to tell sometimes?

A good post, I just wanted to highlight this bit. In no way whatsoever did I ever interpret any of the advice/piss taking offered in my thread as offhand. I may have got that wrong, but it looked to be all in good humour and considering what I'd done, it was appreciated. :D

It does of course. Always good to obtain parity. I guess the message is this: Its ok to make mistakes. If however you continue to make the same mistakes, despite the help and advice of others, then tolerance will wear thin. Totally understandable :)

As I read things; I've cocked up fitting the exhaust, I cocked up the headers and i've cocked up trying to do an oil change. That leaves; the suspension, the cheesegrator and fitting an air filter left to do before people get really hacked off? ;)

Hang on a minute, let's get things into perspective here........

PH's question was originally posted in the tech forum and I had to move it here.
This wasn't even an oil or tyre thread, it was a 'how do I clean my bike' question......now maybe it's just me being a grumpy old git again but I honestly find it incredible that someone would feel the need to ask such a question and not expect to be vilified.......surely, something as basic as cleaning a bike is akin to wiping ones own arse, or do peeps need help with this too ??

Sounds like you've done the right thing. It's not hard to tell if the post is made by Spook - it's a wind up lOl He also winds up with total equanimity, his favourite target for wind ups is :maz: lOl

Don't forget the breather mod lOl That will guarantee teddy making a very fast exit from his perambulator. Take it to :maz: for that as well if you want a painstaking explanation of what is being done and why as it is being done or bring it to us if you want just the job done without the tutorial.
