Some Ducatis would break the return spring/s and get the same thing.

Does sound like something has gone back wrong since you had the cover off! Might be time to remove the cover again!

Because I threaded it and it had to be fixed :(

Going home early to try and sort this out. Will try and post pics for added hilarity.

Oh yes! Well tomorrow looks wet so you have until Sunday? Hope you get it sorted.

Take your time and check everything thrice! ;)

I will check.

Off to Wales tomorrow then onto the Cotswolds somewhere with the wife (she's on a ZX7r). Don't mind the rain, although fingers crossed it isn't a flooding.

If I can't get it sorted, I'll be giving Maz a ring on Tuesday and pretending to be some different bloke with a similar problem in the hope that I can get a proper expert to look at it. Might be an idea to get the nipple thing and breather doobry whilst I think about it.

don't do what this guy allegedly did....

ahh... linky no work...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First post....been lurking for a while trying to learn stuff.

So my 2008 sportster was idling like crap the other day so I figured since I just got it, it may have been awhile since anyone changed the oil out. I decided to go ahead and change the oil.

I used Mobile 1 synthentic oil like I was reccomended on here.

Anyways, I drain out the oil and noticed it was extremely dark and even after 10 minutes of draining, it was still coming out. I decided to go ahead and flush it to make sure all the bad stuff got out.

I hooked up the hose, ran water through the engine, started it up and was waiting for the water to come out clean (The engine never went above idle so I was told this would be ok).

Anyways, About 3 minutes into this, then engine starts shaking and shuts off. I figured it was all cleaned out so I plugged it up, added the oil and figured I was ready to go.

WRONG! The bike won't freaking start now. This motorcycle has been nothing but trouble for me, I think I am done with it.

No GM, I'm not.
I know my way round an engine somewhat (although very out of practise!) and have to admit to giggling and nooooooooo!!!!ing a lot when I read that. It does sound like a wind up though doesn't it?

Years ago I read about a guy in bike mag who ran his CX500 on home made oil with Fairy Liquid as a base with several other additives. Ran well and used less fuel! Or was this also a wind up? :?

Under 40's wouldn't remember when 'bike' was a serious magazine! lOl

I think this was written by that respected journalist Avril P. Hoole.

Had a fiddle (matron) with the primary chain. The engine was warm after my ride home so it needed to be about .6cm apparently. Anyway, it does this. I think.

Checked the mechanism (using schematics from the manual) of the clutch. Twiddled with the adjusting screw (loosening until it lightly bottoms out and then tightening 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

Put it all back together. It does seem slightly better insomuch as it works fine changing down, but still the same story changing up.

I haven't tried the clutch cable adjuster yet, but am about to.
