Had a fiddle (matron) with the primary chain. The engine was warm after my ride home so it needed to be about .6cm apparently. Anyway, it does this. I think.
Checked the mechanism (using schematics from the manual) of the clutch. Twiddled with the adjusting screw (loosening until it lightly bottoms out and then tightening 1/4 to 1/2 turn.
Put it all back together. It does seem slightly better insomuch as it works fine changing down, but still the same story changing up.
I haven't tried the clutch cable adjuster yet, but am about to.

Hi i`ve had the exact same problem after the first ride after winter lay-up.in that i needed to tap the gear shift down between shifting up...turned out to be the gear change linkage swivels needed oiling up and i used an new nyloc nuts and did`nt over tighten them all is well now HTH...good luck
