I'll go and trace those earths through the loom after i've had my tea and let you know if i find anything .......think i'll expose the soldered joint and inspect it properly .
Thanks Gunter :yup:

Well just found this when i started to disconnect the loom to trace the earths ......the IAT sensor cable outer shieving has worn through the insulation on both wires .......now this would explain one of the fault codes ......could a short here also throw up a fault on the TPS as well :? ?.........Im guessing if these short together it isn't going to make the ecm happy though ............so going to check a bit further but suspecting this may be the problem ..........the damage wasn't visable until the outer sheaving was pulled back.

Very good, so there's one error less.

This explains the IAT trouble code, loss of power and the AFV of 110, but not a stalling engine. If the air temp sensor fails, the ECM defaults to around 25 degC, which would keep the engine running.

TPS and CPS share a common voltage supply and a common ground. If there's a short somewhere around the TPS, this one could lead to a failing CPS, and the engine would stall immediately.

Havn't found anything obvious around the tps at the moment ....have opened the loom at the point where all the sensor earths are joined and the sealed joined appears secure and doesn't waver when the joint is wiggled ......there is 4 wires in the join 2 of which run from the front and are the tps and the AIT .....the other 2 i assume are the ecm and the cps no other obvious faults at the moment :? have metered tps sensor wires to earth and can't pick up any fault.

None of the above explains how you get 50-80 miles before the problem starts.
Temp. related?

I had a problem with my XB when it ran so far and then started firing on one cylinder.
I traced the fault to the coil being open circuit so checked the wiring to earth which was okay and replaced the coil.
The next day I rode about 20 Miles before the same thing happened again.
On further investigation the wiring going into the ECM had rubbed on the shock absorber resorvoir and it weas only when I was sitting on the bike the wiring went to earth.

My bike ran 100 mls without a problem with chafed injector wires, then trouble started for another 100 miles, trouble ended and it ran fine again for another 10 up to 100 miles. Seems kind of typical for this kind of problem ...

Stop biting your nails, you will then be able to pull back the sheathing easier, thus enabling your bike to run better! :yup:
